Sapphire RX580 freezes with com.apple.DumpGPURestart

I'm thinking of replacing my RX 560, but I don't know if I am desperate enough to shell out for a Vega yet...

Can anyone confirm if the freezing / GPU reset is affecting RX 400 series cards or is it just the RX 500 series?

The freezes are caused due to problems with HEVC.
You can fix it by enabling iGPU in connector-less mode. Read this thread: https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/...t-support-hevc-hw.240353/page-24#post-1770086

Consider a Vega GPU if you can afford it and don't want to deal with problems; they should work fine without any "aggressive" patch like our workaround. Once prices will drop I think I too will buy a Vega.

OK I see, thanks for pointing that out. Skylake-X CPU doesn't have an iGPU so I'm out of luck.
I don't have much use for a high end GPU so in that sense a lot of Vega would go to waste.

in my case I have the same issue, randomly system freeze screen even mouse cursor is keeping moving, sometimes system restart itself and sometimes I have to restart manually.
i m using AMD RX580 radeon XFX 8GB GTS Black edition and CPU core i3 8100 I don't know what to do, because sometimes freeze system get soon, sometimes get later but is not comfortable been like it.

I thought it was damage GPU, but is not.

Install Lilu + WhatEvergreen kexts in your EFI folder and enable iGPU in the BIOS.
I had the same problem some time ago, it's related to hardware acceleration.

Did you fix the problem? I have the same.
no exactly, problem still happening.
now, I updated to 10.14.2 and not a freeze yet after 15 hours.

I'm facing the same issue, but seems that it's not GPU-related — I have freezes even just on HD630, when RX580 is turned off.
