Nvidia Drivers for Mojave 10.14 Not Available, no WorkAround works well

I would also like to know, if it's Nvidia's fault why cannot Apple make normal default macOS graphics driver, which can at least display at normal resolution and not at 1280x1024?

Actually, they do but for the Kepler cards. They dropped a lot of older AMD/ATI cards and older Nvidia as well.

I am using my old web driver of MacOs High Sierra and it is perfect. I just updated my MacOs High Sierra by the App Store. The video is working perfectly.

I also got to do an USB installer using an application called Disk Maker X.

Link: http://diskmakerx.com

Please note that DiskMakerX is not under the "Approved installation methods". Not sure how this slipped past.

The Rules said:
  • Any posts referencing unapproved installation software, methods, or websites will be deleted. Approved installation methods are as follows: iBoot, UniBeast or createmedia.

Where do you find approved methods ?
Right here at tonymacx86.com or better yet you can use the built in "createmedia" right from your macOS terminal.

Intresting news. Maybe even good news. Whatever, it's not worth of having verbal violent struggle with each another. pastrychef, I'm not accusing you at all. My comment is about last 10-30 posts in this thread. It's all about Apple. It all depends what Apple's developers and hardware engineers decide, not us. Even NVIDIA depends at Apple's decisions. Apples main goal is to force youth buy theirs hardware. Thats it, simple and pure truth. I'm owner of Apples iPad Pro, Mac Pro etc. About iPad I don't complain, but about Mac mini I do. I even couldn't add extra memory or replace it on comp!! Do I can modify parts on iMac Pro or Mac Pro? Of course not. But I believe that comps, especially on pro level should be expandable and parts changeable. For second, if we are talking about video graphics on these days we don't have to install those on inside comp, but external video cards are new standard and Apple should honor this and make possible to use on his system other video cards, not only those which they sell.

If you are, Mac Mini, a little handy you can upgrade memory and M.2 see:

I dont understand why people are trying to get the web drivers to work? I mean no acceleration. So a smarter question would be: Since there are native drivers to that work with say a (GTX 780 ETC.) and that card is very simlar to a (GTX 1080 ETC.) cant we just MOD. the 780 driver personalities to handle a 1080? That way we have metal...

I’m very curious how did you assume that these two cards are “very simelar”. Having same looking numbers doesn’t make them anyhow similar to each other

Hi Guys,

With still no official announcement from Nvidia on when we might see an updated Mojave WebDriver for their GPU's I have finally given up on my life time support of Team Green (Nvidia) and jumped to Team Red (AMD)

I've just got hold of a Sapphire Vega 64 Liquid Cooled GPU to replace the GTX 980 Ti in my DeskTop video editing system. Installation was a breeze ... I simply ran the Nvidia WebDriver uninstaller from the Nvidia Driver Manager, once it was finished I shutdown the system, removed the GTX 980Ti and installed the Vega 64.

Upon power up the Vega 64 LC was found and initialised without any additional intervention, although I should point out that I already had Lilu + WhatEverGreen installed and the IGPU configured with a headless PlatformID.

As recommended by @pastrychef I ran the VGtab64 utility and selected the stock Vega 64 Liquid Cooled power profile and installed the generated kext, GPU clock speeds peek at 1750Mhz, memory clock @ 945Mhz, GPU temp tops out at 50 degs C when running the Haven benchmark being a liquid cooled card runs super quiet and the rad fan never goes above 1350 RPM.

The difference to the smoothness of the MacOS user interface was apparent straight away which confirmed my suspicions about how badly optimised the Open GL/CL Nvidia MacOS WebDrivers are , GPU benchmarks with the Vega 64 where about 40% up on the GTX 980 Ti.

Render times for the FCP-X Bruce Test where over 100% quicker (980 Ti = ~40 secs, Vega 64 = ~19 secs)

So finally I was able to to update the system to Mojave ... I simply downloaded and ran the Mojave installer/updater via the App Store and after 30 mins MacOS Mojave 10.14.1 was running as sweet as you like.

It's a real shame that Nvidia have chosen to treat their loyal customers this way, the lack of any official information on the current state of Mojave/Metal 2 WebDrivers is totally unacceptable .. even if Apple is in-some part involved.

I agree with everyone that Nvidia GPU's are faster and more power efficient than AMD but this latest news blackout by Nvidia has made me realise that they don't actually care about their customers they just care about the $$$. Even if MacOS represents a very small sector of their overall market share they should not treat us the way they have.

Moving on now ....
Cheers
Jay

nVidia never really cared about macOS users for number of reasons...

1) Difficult to find macOS driver on their website.
2) Have to wait for days or months for web driver to be released after minor/major macOS upgrades.
3) nVidia drivers are substandard in a way that OpenGL/CL suffered performance hits badly.
4) nVidia is only interested in Windows customers. Enough said.

Most folks here have already jumped ship to AMD camp. Good luck nVidia and don't let the door hit you on the way out.

This is only true in Windows and on paper. In macOS, the Nvidia cards were hampered by poor drivers. As you mentioned, even in general UI, AMD is far smoother despite not being as good on paper.

10.14.2 is now out. Expect to finally hear from nvidia very soon. Like I said repeatedly, and none of you will listen, the issue was apples fault. However, NOW the ball is in nvidia's court because 10.14.2 "fixed" the issue. Now we'll see what nvidia's ACTUAL turnaround time is.
