Any advice or thoughts are appreciated. I'm particularly curious about motherboard choice.

The Gigabyte z390 Aorus Master has the best VRMs in that price range.
In the beginning the were some issues with the z390 Asrock boards, which would overvolt the CPU. Not sure though if they already fixed that with a newer BIOS Version.

Thanks. I looked at that mobo but the reviews are terrible. Seems to be very buggy. Anyone have experience with it?

A late reply so it may not be of any use to you but as an owner of the Z390 Taichi board I would not recommend the board to anyone doing a new build expecting a clean install until the BIOS problem with this board is fixed. The current version of BIOS (at time of writing) is 1.9. I was able to get version 1.2 to work but not versions 1.3, 1.6 or 1.9 despite extensive testing. There are NVMe improvements in the later BIOS versions that I want but, for now, I am stuck on version 1.2
