Why you should not delid your i9-99xx and why you should opt for a delidded i9-79xx, if possible instead

fyi: Silicon Lottery will delid a 9900, bin it (test it), and warranty it for any 9900 they delid for one year for about ~$80.....and, they offer the same deal for any X99 or X299 chips (X299 chips cost a bit more, but not that much more actually).

Maybe interesting for those not able to get a i9-79xx.

Edited : Response to @kgp quote: "Maybe interesting for those not able to get a i9-79xx."

Not necessarily. The I9- 9980xe is not included on their list. Neither the other new ones :(

We are talking about the 9900K, right? That IS a i9 chip, at least according to Intel. Because that is on their list.......the 9900xe and other CPUs in that series are not even released......nor are they for sale.....

As for the next release of i9-99xx X299 chips, I don't think I'd bother deliding them....

Well, they will delid any of the released X299 chips (meaning i9-79XX)....for those who want to have that done.....as well as the 9900K and some others......the i9-99XX X299 chips aren't even released yet, and if they are soldered, it won't be fun removing the solder.....

Having an issue getting my Sapphire Vega 64 to work properly.
Using latest Whatevergreen with latests Lilu.
Boots fine into macOS, but I get a black screen with cursor only (movable), and only in a small area of the screen.

If I use Remote Desktop, then I can see that the UI is initiated at full resolution and my display is properly detected in System Profiler. But actual monitor only displays black screen with cursor.

Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks!

What SMBIOS are you using?
You have hevc enabled, not having h264 is very bizarre. Maybe it's just that app getting it wrong

To test if H264 is available, decoding at least I can give you steps on how to test with common program like either Firefox or Chrome. Which one do you use?

Edit: It does look like HW h264 decoding is disabled in 10.14.1. Weird I hadn't noticed before

Hi guys!

I got a Sapphire Radeon RX Vega 64 Liquid Cooled --> http://www.sapphiretech.com/productdetial.asp?pid=6BC8485A-C1BD-46C3-A6C5-32BB65B3DFF0&lang=eng

Sometimes my GPU Tach (a strip of LEDs showing how much GPU is in idle/load) goes to 100% and stays so without any apparent reason forcing me to reboot to fix the issue. It happens since booting up!

Attached a pic of my rig and a system info

I use @kgp SSDT for vega and the bug occurs with both Whatevergreen and Vega5KFixup, possible related to not proper SSDT for this GPU? Can anybody tweak it for me? Would be great to let the radiator fan run slowly at lower temps 'cause it's a bit noisy even when in idle !!!

Thanks

Can you remove any kexts and SSDT's related to the GPU? Test that way and see what happens first.

WG is not necessary to use the GPU, it's only if you need multi-monitor support and shiki (which is included in WG now). I am curious to see if WG is the issue here since you have a triple monitor setup (5k X 3, that's a lot of bandwidth)...

I actually have 3 4K monitors! Now what?
