[Success] GIGABYTE Z370 Gaming 7 + Intel Core i7-8700K + RX 580 + (2x) Dell P2715Q 4k @ 60Hz

@jb007 Thanks for that. So, I thought I'd share a mystery item for the @HackaShaq build using the Fractal R6 case. I've been using your kext unchanged. Because our cases are different, there may be a difference on what "chassis USB connector" registers where, and if an internal hub may be monkeying around with the way an item registers. I'm not an EE, so I don't know all this stuff. I tested it with an iLok because it's a license holder and not something that has to be ejected to prevent damage. Oddly, I can't get that red type-A sized USB 3.1 port to register in the FB Patcher app. Check it out: Thanks @jb007 and @headkaze

I have the same mobo and the same cpu. If that works for jiffyslot and he uploaded the clover folder, it probably works with my system right?
Nope. The config file I uploaded way back was wrong, so don't use it. Besides the beginning of the whole thread where @HackaShaq began, please read the following posts carefully: #882, #934, #936 where @jb007 righted the ship.

It's also worth looking through what went on back in the #700's and #800's post range.
Please note that I am not using Bluetooth, Firewire, or WiFi, so my setup will appear different. My screen shots are specific to my system.

@jiffyslot I have the same case, so I'd be very happy if we could solve this stange issue
Yeah, there are just a couple USB hub-based drives that won't mount, even with the FB patch. Because of a pretty much permanent installation, I can't really move those around in the rack to experiment, so I'll likely just set up a share through a Mac Mini for those drives and the Firewire 800 stuff. I rarely use them except for backups. What is concerning though is that my Lexar CF card reader will only mount via the red type-A port.

Hi,

I've been mostly lurking on and off tonymacx86 for ages. Now I'm finally going for a build. Never build a PC before, let alone a hackintosh, that's why I've been so hesitating.

I understand that the Gigabyte Z370 OARUS Gaming 7 is a good choice, but why the Gaming 7 instead of the Gaming 5 motherboard? (comparison sheet between Gaming 5 and 7) I mean:

• Both have 3 M2 connectors
• Gaming 7 has 1 extra Killer E2500 NIC.
• Gaming 5 has Intel WirelessAC (433Mbps) but @HackaShaq doesn't use that anyway. And some onboard OC buttons & USB connectors.
• Gaming 5 3rd PCIe x16 slot has no RGB lighting but @HackaShaq uses only one PCI slot, so the fact that the Gaming 7 has an extra slot doesn't matter, right?

I'm asking this because I like this build and want to use the same board, but I don't want to find out I'm missing something crucial (to me) before ordering the hardware. Thanks for any advice. :)

Very little difference between the two:

The Gaming 5 still has 3 PCIe slots though the third one does not have RGB lighting and is not reinforced like the 7. HackaShaq did not even care about the RGB as he said he wishes the case he had did not have a see thru side.

I yanked the BT/Wifi from the Gaming 5, turned off the ports and put a an PCI adapter for a card from OSXwifi though there are cheaper options now. In addition the built in WiFi/BT does not support Hand Off/Continuity; so, if you got the 5, you would need another card, anyways. However, you can get a M2 adapter for a native Broadcom card and plug it into the slot on the 5 where the existing BT/Wifi is to save yourself a PCI slot if you need.

The 7 has some kind of Thermal Gard for the M.2 drive near the CPU.

It really comes down to if you want want an M.2 slot for your WiFi/BT if you even care about handoff/continuity or if you want that Killer GB LAN.

If you're not planning adding a 3rd GPU, then the reinforcing of the 3rd slot on the Gaming 7 is also pretty worthless.

Anything the Gaming 5 or 7 have that the other does not you are likely able to add it on your own via a PCIe card.

I just wanted to say THANK YOU!!! to @HackaShaq for posting this amazing and detailed build.
I used this as a guide for my first build/Learning experience. And, it went perfectly (Well, almost due to my initial ignorance of certain details).
The requirements for posting builds here is a bit too involved for me at this point. And, for this build, there seems to be no good reason since SO MANY have followed your guide to success!
I am VERY grateful to be able to see what others have done and, at least replicate it - if not fully understand it at this point.

I now have a perfectly solid MacPro PLUS-level machine at less than half the cost. Who doesn't love that?

Pro Tools 2018.10/VEP6 user here: I picked my mobo (see sig) and built this machine only because I needed to accommodate a Thunderbolt AIC for my Apollo interface. Had I known back in June that hotswap/power-down power up/get your device back is not currently possible, -and it's doubtful that it'll ever be, I would have purchased a used 2012 Mac Pro 12 core with a 1 TB PCIe Flash unit and 64 GB RAM to run my Vienna Ensemble Pro stuff headless and have all USB ports working when I need them.

I'm sure we'll get the USB ports working in the next days. As for Thunderbolt, have you tried the new Titan Ridge card from Gigabyte? I've heard that it solves a lot of issues that occurred with the Alpine Ridge ones.
