I have a Dell Optiplex 9020 Small Form Factor desktop.

It currently has an
Core i7 Processor
12GB RAM
500GB Segate Hybrid Drive - Secondary
120GB EVO - Primary

I would like to somehow get Mavericks installed on it, or Mountain Lion if Mavericks isn't possible. Does anyone have any tips or ideas on how to get this going?

I have tried booting OS X on it, but the installer doesn't start. it panics in the verbose mode each time. Any Ideas anyone?

You have not provided any details... thus no answers.

You at least need to provide actual CPU model, chipset the motherboard uses, and the graphics capability you plan to use.

If you're getting a panic, take a quality photo of the entire screen and upload it.

Better questions == better answers.

I have the SAME problem using unibeast with a Dell Optiplex 9020 Small Form Factor desktop.

My setup is:

  • i5-4570
  • 8 GB of RAM (2 x 4 GB)
  • intel onboard video.
  • 500GB Segate Hybrid Drive - primary
  • 120GB SSD - secondary

I have used unibeast successfully before on other machines, but simply can't get it to boot up correctly in Unibeast on this machine.

I am using the newest Unibeast with 10.10.2 (Yosemite).

The Installer keeps rebooting at 'Starting Darwin x86_64' I have tried every combination of boot flags (-x -v -f and IGPEnabler GraphicsEnabler, etc.) AND settings in Org.chameleon.Boot.plist all with no success!

And I have checked all my BIOS settings 15 times!

I cannot get past 'Starting Darwin x86_64'
Can anyone help me get out of this boot loop?

Not enough information. What specific kernel panic is showing in a verbose boot ? Take a picture of the screen where it stops and upload it here.

I also have a Dell OptiPlex 9020.
I had to get a new video card so I got the inexpensive MSI Nvidia Gt710. It works just fine.
To get the installer to boot up, I had to use clover and then when it first boots, before selecting the MacOS installer, go to the settings and the PCI settings and you will see two USB options at the top. You need to select both or it won't boot. Once I did that, I got everything to work well enough to boot.

I never did get the built in video to work so just pick up a 710 or whatever you need and can afford.
The 4600 graphics will work well enough to install but I couldn't ever get video working properly and it would not even run the basic interface smoothly. I got a lot of flickering.

Thank you DaleC! Now at least I can boot to installer!

I replaced my 710 with a refurbished 730 I found on ebay. IT was only $30 so I think it was well worth it.
I don't inject anything. If I do inject, it works and it shows the brand name in "about this Mac". If I don't inject, it just says "nvidia" rather than PNY or MSI etc. Then gives the model either way. Functionally I had multiple monitor issues injecting. It would not boot properly with two displays connected.
