FYI: I have updated my 8300 USDT to BIOS 3.07 without any problem.
Hi, I just update my BIOS to 3.07 and install windows 10 but get many different blue screen like WHEA, I don't know what happened, and my PC is 8300 USDT, i5 3570, 4g ddr3 1333, 128G msata SSD. Could you please tell me your BIOS setting or something to help me to solve this problem...

This guide was a collaborative effort by the whole community. I didn't figure this all out on my own. I just set a goal of finding a pre-built that anyone could afford and get fully working with Sierra and High Sierra. It's a starter hackintosh for the masses. Thanks for expressing your appreciation. I was as surprised as everyone at the success and popularity of this guide.

Well kudos to the whole community, and thanks to you for putting it down and making it clear.

Hi folks,

I am visiting this website for a couple of days and i really appreciate efforts of all the community members. So @trs96 and all, thank you sooo much. Please guide me as i am totally new.

After seeing this thread, i have decided to buy hp 8300 as I am quite low on budget($150). This is my first attempt to make a hackintosh. I am planning to install high sierra on it. My primary purpose would be to do part time iOS development. So please guide me

1. Is this guide up to date with all the related software that i will need? So will it be an easy experience for a newbi like me ?
2. There are two options for me. Which one would you suggest?
Any cpu with Intel HD 4000 as suggested in this guide.
or A discrete low profile graphics card ?
3. Which budget graphics cards would work best for high sierra ?
4. Would i3 Third generation also work. it will cut some cost (of course with descrete graphics card)?
Thanks

I built up an i3 6300 two days ago and it's been running pretty solidly on Sierra, so yes it's up-to-date. My notes are that when creating the install USB you need to be absolutely sure you make it the right format with GUID, and that the BIOS updates are sequential and the HP websites don't list them all on the one page, and that you need to search if an update doesn't take.

Apparently (but don't quote me) the i7 has the HD4000 so you can start there. I understand that AMD cards are native in High Sierra and Mojave so if you're not gaming, they're a better choice. But that's as much help on GPUs as I can be :)

If budget is a main concern get a CPU with HD4000 and use the onboard DP output to a 1080p or 1440p monitor. HD4000 is also fully supported in macOS Mojave for when you need to upgrade to that in the future. The lowest cost dedicated GPU is a GT710 that also works OOB. Those cost close to 50 USD so you can save more by going with HD4000. Get an i3-3225 CPU to save the most money. It is perfectly fine for general use as it has 2 cores and 4 threads. They currently sell for 33 USD on Ebay.com.

Thanks Geezah,

So regarding the BIOS updates:
I have read this guide. Accordingly, we have to update BIOS one time to a specific version. Is'nt that the case. ? or do we have to update BIOS multiple times.

And second thing. The Intel i3 (3240) can also be used, right ? (wit discrete graphics card)

Thanks

The BIOS updates are sequential, so you need to do them one at a time in order. I had to do two updates, one which was listed in the guide, the other which wasn't. When I tried just the last one, it didn't tell me it hadn't worked, so I waster a lot of time before I realised.

The i3 can be used, but needs a GPU like the GT710. I used this card and it works fine.

The only mandatory BIOS update is to ver. 2.99 anything higher than that is optional. You can go directly to 3.07 from 2.99 if you want the spectre and meltdown fixes that HP has added this year.

This is all clearly stated in the guide in post #1. There should be no confusion regarding the BIOS updating. You can flash to 02.99 once and everything will work perfectly well. 3.07 is optional.

After you've flashed the 02.99 BIOS you can update from 02.99 to the newest 2018 version (03.07) but that is not mandatory. 3.07 has fixes for the Spectre vulnerability that was announced in January of 2018. See the HP website for instructions showing you how to perform the update. HP Desktop PCs - Updating the BIOS
