Didn't see a thread about this, so here it goes....any brave soul pre-ordering any of these overpriced cards?

I think that it doesn't have any sense for Hackintosh users to pre-order now it because we don't know if and when drivers for macOS will be released.
I just hope that Apple will start using NVidia again and so will optimize software for them.

For hackintosh, meh. Even the pascal drivers aint too great under high sierra compared to AMD. Hackintosh is pretty volatile in the GPU department too. Two years ago, nvidia was king/AMD was trash to get working. Now it's opposite. Perhaps in 10.15, the RX 580 will lag/ artifact like the supposedly native kepler graphics do today

I wonder if it isn’t Nvidia not doing anything to support the older cards. It seems that the older AMD cards 6xxx and 7xxx series still work pretty well. Nvidia is more concerned about their newer cards and the Web Drivers. It’s probably not economically in their interest to support older cards in Mac OS since they would have to address and update the native drivers along with their top tier Web Drivers.

It would be nice if Apple chose to use some of these new 20xx series cards. They are powerful and efficient and it would open up OS to more graphics options. But it would be a lot of work for Apple as well to maintain the drivers with each update. AMD seems to be their go to vendor like it or not.

Without drivers, the cards, however great they are (in games), are useless for hackintosh users.

Highly doubt it...but if they can work with NVIDIA to at least allow proper eGPU support and better optimized drivers, that would be a good start.

However, what WOULD be wonderful for everyone including eGPU customers and Hackintoshers (the latter is not really official anyway) would be if the 2019 Mac Pro has the option for AMD and NVIDIA during check out....that would be really cool.

Well, obviously...

But don't discount CUDA cores. 2080Ti has 4,352 CUDA cores. Premiere Pro loves CUDA cores, except it's buggy under macOS.

Hy,

Here is. I pre-ordered 2080ti. I've no delivery date, but it is expected by 2nd part of Sept. It is not for Hackintosh but for windows applications (including Games as well) but I will give a try. Especially a bit later..., as I remember web drivers for pascal was relatively quick that time...

Petko.

Good luck. But remember, MacOS drivers for the Pascal cards were only released 1 year after the release of the cards.

It was actually 8 months.

I had bought a 1080 and built a Hackintosh and had to use iGPU under macOS for months then I saw NVIDIA wasn't releasing anything and bought dual 980Ti's.

I am now only on AMD. Tired of NVIDIA.

Well, the first Pascal cards were launched at the end of May 2016 and the beginning of June 2016, and the Pascal MacOS drivers were released in April 2017, so actually the gap was a little more than 10 months. Perhaps "nearly 1 year" would be more accurate.

Anyway, it is obvious we can't depend on Nvidia to release drivers for MacOS "soon" after the launch of new cards. We may have to wait a long time between the launch of cards and the launch of MacOS drivers, if Nvidia decides to release them at all.

Personally I only opt for natively supported graphics cards to run MacOS, as far as possible. That means Nvidia Kepler series and current AMD cards. I do have Pascal and Maxwell cards (bought in the past), but they are for use in Windows machines only.
