@John V How's your experience been with the 280X?

I also just purchased a Sapphire Radeon PULSE RX 580 8GB but it has had a bunch of glitchy issues in FCPX which is the reason for my Hackintosh. I have been running a pair of Sapphire 7970s but since upgrading to Sierra, they have not been as smooth - system crashes.

I had read that the RX 580 should be OOB for 10.12.6 and 10.13.x (@Stork), but it's just not working out that way.

Are you running FCPX 10.4? What version of Mac OS are you running?

for fcpx on imac smbios with 580 you should not only upgrade to previously recommended 10.13.6 but also have to have igpu working, that solved many ppls problems
also if problems try to run through hdmi, as next step try without whatevergreen or radeondeinit

iGPU - off
WhateverGreen - no
RadeonDeInit - no
without anything !!!

@LeoDuke, Can you confirm when use fcpx + 10.13.4, can you export video as H.264 without compressor ?... I was having problem with exporting in H.264 without iGPU and RX580 would crash instantly or freeze.
I was on High Seirra 10.13.1 & System Deifnition iMAC 17.1

I can confirm following:
- my hack is running macOS High Sierra 10.13.6 (17G65)
- I have FCXP 10.4
- Compressor OFF
- H.264 ON (extra for you)

Am really sorry for you but I don't have any problem.

As you can see, my system is 10.13.6 + iMac18,3

I think iMac17,1 use AMD Radeon R9 M380, M390, M395, or M395X and if you have RX 580 in your Hack you better change SMBIOS to 18,3

LeoDuke: did you also try to export H.264 with other projects, that use H.264 videos in the timeline? My rig worked well with intel Multimonitor Support on, but not with it off.

It seems to be connected to the Intel Quick Sync, that is used to transcode h.264 videos. I'm also on 18,3 and my GPU just works at half of it's capacity as it seems.

No, am not Federico Fellini ;)
Just used a famous BruceX Test to know how fast is my grafic card.
But if you give me some advices how to do that, I'll do a new test.

That's easy. Film something with your smartphone and then just import into FCPX and timeline and then export to h.264.

Edit: the thing with BruceX is, that it's not using any h.264 material and therefore, some bugs don't occur like with "real" video footage.

... yes, it was really easy, thank you

I made 30 sec movie with my iPhone X 4K (3840x2160) @ 60fps.
With main settings:

iGPU - off
WhateverGreen - no
RadeonDeInit - no
without anything !!!

I couldn't export H.264 format but 422 or 422 HQ without any probs with time score almost 30 sec.
Then I switch iGPU in BIOS on (only this)

iGPU - ON
WhateverGreen - no
RadeonDeInit - no
without anything !!!

and the prob with export of H.264 was gone.
I have no idea if the export time are good or not. As I said I'm not Federico Fellini ;)
The interesting thing for me is, that the export time of the Apple 422 HQ file (6,81 GB) ist shorter (43 sec)
than the small file H.264 (503 MB) with (56 sec)
Here the screenshots.

Hi,

thanks. That's exactly what I observed. ProRes export no problem, but H.264 was throwing an error / not working. So obviously the H.264 need intel's Quick Sync for exporting. Thanks for your test. So I will leave igfx on.

Also greetings from Gemany (Berlin) ;)
