What's the maximum amount of drives you can fit into the 8300 SFF? I see there's the primary drive bay, then the second drive bay under the Optical Drive. Can you remove the Optical Drive and use that as a 3rd possible drive bay? Will Mac OS recognise this?

I'm thinking of replacing the primary drive bay with an SSD, and then if possible I want to add a SATA HDD in the second drive bay, and another SATA HDD in the Optical Drive bay?

Hoping this is possible and all recognised in Mac OS

Your main limitation is the 4 Sata ports on the motherboard. macOS can recognize all the drives. That is not a problem.
Have a look at the Syba mobile rack that goes in the 5.25" optical drive bay.

So this Syba rack fits in the Optical Drive Bay if you remove it?
Yes, just like in the picture. Then you can use an SSD and 3.5" HDD in the same bay. Connecting up the USB 3.0 is optional and requires another PCIe x1 add in card for that.

You can also add a PCI SATA card to add even more drives. I tried a cheap two port one I got from NewEgg and it worked OOB. A second power cable may be useful, although the 2 x 2.5” dock I have in the front 3.5” drive bay only has one power connector so I have 4 drives with just the original.

Does any PCI SATA Connector work in a Hackintosh 8300 SFF? any brand?

Oh! and how many power connectors are on the power supply? Suppose you could add all these PCI SATA Adapters but not have enough power connectors to the drive.

There are two power connectors on the motherboard, but they use non-standard connectors. I have this link:

https://www.ebay.com/p/628567-001-H...iid=222617242790&_trksid=p2047675.m4097.l9055

from one of the 6300/8300 threads.

What I did was to buy one of these:

https://www.monoprice.com/product?c_id=102&cp_id=10245&cs_id=1024502&p_id=1321&seq=1&format=2

I had to trim the square plastic connector to fit the "key" in the receptacle; and I had to splice the wires to a regular SATA power cable (I used the original as a reference.)

You should be able to get at least 6 drives connected without much difficulty.

Trying to build my second HP 8300 SFF. My first one is running flawlessly so I wanted to get another to replace my Mac Pro server. But unfortunately I get a kernel panic every time shortly after clover boot.

Things I've tried:

created multiple unibeast usb sticks
removed and reinserted RAM sticks as well as configuration
cloned SSD from working 8300
mirrored bios settings exactly

The only difference in the two computers is the one I've been using for months is an i3 and the one I'm trying to hack is an i5-3570.

Both have 8GB RAM and 240 GB SSD and v03.04

Next thing I was going to try is to swap CPU's but I an reluctant to mess with the 8300 i3 that is running so well.

I'm guessing there is a hardware problem. It booted and worked in Win 7 when I first got it a couple of weeks ago though.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated. KP attached.
