[Success] GIGABYTE Z370 Gaming 7 + Intel Core i7-8700K + RX 580 + (2x) Dell P2715Q 4k @ 60Hz

No, for Dual Channel to work good you need to have them installed in either the following configuration:

DDR4_1 + DDR4_2
or
DDR4_3 + DDR4_4

there should be a one slot gap in-between the 2 sticks. If you put them next to each other Dual Channel won't be working.

I'm sure now, that is the problem, you don't have dual channel. If you see the manual it says that right corner slot is DDR1 and the left with a space between them is the DDR2. If you put it as i said, and overclock the ram, you will get 30.000+ at Geekbench. Please cancel the order of the new ram :)

I will be absolutely happy to return the RAM unopened! :D

However, who is writing these manuals? LOL

Im reading the manual text above the photo of the motherboard, where it says that you there are two channels, so you must install them into either:

DDR4_2, DDR4_4 (as a group)

or

DDR4_1, DDR4_3 (as a group)

I totally misread that above (still do) as the ram needs to be installed in Channel A or Channel B.

I honestly didn't see the chart because I saw the Channel A and B text first. Oh wow.

Wow, I really thank you both for pointing this out. I swear, my brain totally doesn't work the way that manual is written. I can see what you both are saying in the chart, but I see the exact opposite in the "Channel A" and "Channel B" text above the motherboard photo which is why I never saw an issue.

Another question.
Which SMBIOS Version are you running for your system: iMac 14,2. or 18,3. ?
I have read in another thread that this influences the score, too.
But maybe try first the dual channel configuration and see what difference it makes.

I am running a iMac 18,3 with a near identical system as yours with the 8700k at 4.9Ghz (can't get it stable at 5Ghz without getting too close to 1.4V) and I am getting Single Core scores ~ 6500 and Multi Core scores ~ 30.800.

I'm still on iMac 14,2, but that was what I was going to test out with the new Ram to see if the system identifier changed performance as well. But hey, if I'm a dope and had the RAM in the wrong slots, I should have to turn in my build guide card in the first place. LOL

Good info about your scores. I'm going to crack open my computer in an hour and change the RAM slots and check the Geekbench numbers.

How much GB of RAM do you have? More RAM means better scores as I have seen. I'm on 16GB RAM, and I get 30.500 with 5GHz overclock. I believe HackaShaq will reach 31.000+ because of 32GB of RAM.

I have 32GB G.Skill Ripjaw V at 3200MHz (XMP profile active in BIOS). So the only difference is the 100MHz more on his 8700k.

Hey @jimmakos01 and @SebErr, all I gotta say is that the guy who wrote this guide is a complete moron. hahah Oh boy, I feel like an idiot being that I misread the manual.

Ok, I just opened my tower, and even though everyone online said you needed to remove the CPU air cooler I have before swapping out the RAM, I used the hands of a delicate surgeon to move the RAM into the correct slots, and check this out:

I have 32Gb or RAM in this machine. And didn't do any specific RAM overclocking tweaks at all, so I'm totally fine just leaving things as-is. I'll also just keep my iMac 14,2 identifier because everything is working perfectly.

Wow, I owe both of you guys a beer. For real. The RAM was supposed to arrive tomorrow, so these tips were just in time and now I can not only return it unopened, but the RAM I bought was an excellent value in that it's 2x 16GB sticks, and so I still have two slots open for more RAM in the future. Ahhh...if Only I went with 64GB and 4 sticks of RAM, I would have filled up all the slots properly and not have made this bonehead move. LOL

Thanks again to both of you and also @jb007 for your feedback and advice related to the RAM.

Time to update the guide for anyone that might make the same mistake I did. :)

I'm glad you found the problem. If you remember my first post was about that is something wrong with your overclock. Because the guide is perfect, I didn't think that it can be a RAM issue.

If you come to Greece someday you can buy me a beer. he he.

I seriously have a ton of thanks to you especially. Much appreciated. I put in a cancel delivery request at Amazon for the RAM. (It might still arrive tomorrow, but I can return it...yay!)

I remember you saying from the start that there was something wrong with my overclock. You were completely right and thanks again so much for brining up the RAM slot manual page. I just updated the guide with my new geekbench numbers, changed the overclock section to the easy overclock method, and also added a note at the top about the RAM slots so that hopefully no one will be a dummy like me. Big thanks again! :)
