Problem is that those have too much travel. You had to push in Apple's original buttons really hard to make them click. Secondly since they don't have the same measurements it's harder to place them correctly.
I'm not an electrical engineer, but I did stumble upon this video that might help. The guy in the video seems very thorough.
It looks like you can get away with just connecting two terminals.
Just a thought, what if you glued a tiny spacer to the rear of the original apple button or even used a Dremel to remove the excess plastic on the long switch?
