[SOLVED] NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 + Sierra

Hello iFriends. I usually don't run to forums but I'm almost desperate now. I've been 2 days straight not sleeping at all trying to make my GTX 275 to work with Sierra. I have read every single article about this matter and none of them have given me any solution. I can boot and see the desktop only at 1920x1080 but it doesn't actually fit the whole screen, it's kinda bit smaller than the screen. I was using a 20" monitor and it was worling fine (I struggled a lot to make it work, but finally did it). Now I connected a 39" LCD and got everything rolled back to the beggining. I managed to get to native resolution editing DisplayOverrides as I did before but now my card appears as "NVIDIA chip model 7 MB" and touching configurations it alternates with "NVIDIA chip model 3 MB". So I have no QE/CI at all. I've reached my limits now so I'm calling for help. Could anyone have any suggestions? BUILD: Gigabyte z170x-UD3 - Core i7 6700 - GTX 275

Well, I just wanna tell you guys that finally figured out the problem and managed to make it work.-
To install El Capitan or Sierra you have to use "nv_disable=1". Once you did all the process and finally need the final touch to get full resolution DO NOT INSTALL any driver or anything, you just need original "NVDAStartup.kext" from El Capitan and replace it at /System/Library/Extensions, then set the config.plist at clover EFI with "Inject Nvidia=true" and delete "nv_disable=1" ( but DO NOT add "nvda_drv=1" and DO NOT select "NvidiaWeb"). That's it. Card will be recognized properly and you'll get everything fully working.
If you have previosuly installed WebDriver, uninstall completely first.
This card is working in Yosemite, El Capitan and Sierra. I'm now gonna test it in High Sierra with this same procedure.
GeForce GTX 275 is actually working if you use this method; if you find problems at install or at boot it's most likely to be because of boot flags for your motherboard (like "Still waiting for root device", "Missing Bluetooth Controller", black screens or panics).
Good luck.

I'm having a similar issue that I'm hoping someone can help me with. I had a working El Capitan installation using my Radeon 7770 card, but that card doesn't seem to work for High Sierra so I removed it and used my old GTX 260 card instead. This seemed to work and I could get through the installer now. Unfortunately when it comes to actually booting into High Sierra I'm getting a KP. Using the advice from this thread I turned off Inject Nvidia and set NV_Disable to 1, and that got rid of the KP but then it just rebooted instead (progress?).

I know I need to replace the bad NVDAStartup.kext from HS with the good one from El Capitan which I have on my USB key, but since I can't boot into HS I don't know how to do this. Can I copy the kext to the EFI folder on my Unibeast key and have it inject the kext that way so I can at least boot into High Sierra? Right now the kext is just in the root folder of the key. I'm still booting from the key since I haven't been able to boot into HS and run Multibeast.

Any help would be appreciated.

Solved my issue. I was finally able to boot with Inject Nvidia, Nvidia Generic, Nvidia Single, and NV_Disable=1. Some combination of these worked and I was able to get in and swap out the bad NVDAStatup.kext. My GTX 260 now works perfectly.

Now I found solution! My GTX 260 works fine on Sierra;)

The solution: Use NVDAStartup.kext for El Capitan.

This is still working with High Sierra, just re-built my ancient Hackintosh today and was able to get working video support with this kext.

However, it seems like no support for Metal/Metal 2 based on trying to (and failing to) launch Fortnite!

Anyone know if there's a way around this? :\

Gtx 260 doesn’t support Mojave.
We need to change our graphic card...wtf
And suggestions ? Maybe AMD? Which budget graphic card do you suggest ?
Yhiraki did you updated yours ?

Budget cards
Nvidia GT710 is the lowest cost, but for best performance AMD RX 560 (not XFX brand).

For used cards Nvidia 640-700 series Kepler cards for AMD HD 7xxx series and up.
Since there no web drivers yet AMD upper end cards are the best performers for Mojave.

Thank you man.
GT710 is probably too poor in performance, I'm thinking about rx 560 but I'd be certain that it works OOB.
I'll try to read about that in forum.

It is OOB, just don't get the XFX brand.

That is the reality if you want to run Mojave and/or new graphics software like those games.

To run High Sierra or Mojave and be Metal compatible?

For new budget card, RX 560 is best.

If you want to consider used cards, a GTX 760 or Radeon 7870 will work great. I have both and they are natively supported in High Sierra (and probably Mojave also).
