Hi I'm looking for advice as to what the best GPU to buy for a video editing and colour grading set up.

I'm building my first Hacintosh and broadly following the CustoMac pro components list (and Stork's Hero2). However I'm still getting pretty confused by GPUs as there are just so many options.

I edit on Premiere and Davinci so from what I understand I'm better off with a Navida card as opposed to AMD.

I was planning on getting an 8GB card as 11GB is probably out of my price range.

I've been looking at the GTX 1080s because I assumed they were best, but again there are so many options.

Can anyone recommend which card to go with?

Was planning on going with the ROG MAXIMUS X HERO motherboard.

Thanks in advance.

Make sure your case is large enough due to the length of this card.

EVGA also makes very good graphics cards.
Thanks for the advice.

Out of interest, what is the difference (practically speaking) between the EVGA you recommended and the one in the June Build Guide (https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01GVHNWUK/?tag=tonymacx86-21

Asking as the ones above are maybe a little out of my price range. That said I would rather spend more money if the difference is worth it. Unfortunately I don't really understand the difference!

That is a 1070 and not a 1080. That's why it costs less. Performance is lower than a 1080. Look at some graphics card comparison web sites for specific numbers.

These Quadro's are for Windows. Don't know if these are a good choice for a hack. Pro Tools itself will run fine on any old gpu, built in or not. It(HD 12) runs fine on my old X58 hack with an ancient nvidia 512 MB RAM card in the wrong slot.

Media Composer is probably more depending on a proper GPU.

Avid has these System Requirements pages that will give you an idea. They won't tell you what to get for your hack, though.
