@macaroni22 There's no reason to have the Wifi/BT card installed while you are doing the install. Remove it and try again. Another thing you could try is removing one of the 8GB ram modules.

SOLVED: (After the tried steps below) Re-downloaded High Sierra from MAS and re created usb installer and finally success! Posting from 10.13.5

Thx for the reply...making progress in eliminating source of issue; just for the sake of documentation here is what I tried (and left bios alone with secure boot configuration. set to legacy disabled)
1) removed bluetooth from usb header = same issue
2) removed wifi card (as well as dvd cable just in case) and then switched keyboard and mouse to front usb 2.0 ports instead of back usb 3.0 (again, just in case) = same issue
3) removed 1 of the 8gb sticks = same issue

my next step will be to re do the installer usb stick, perhaps using a different stick (although I did do that once already before the above steps) (edit - tried that again, same issue)

unless anyone has any other suggestions? The only other thing I can think of is something in bios - although I’m on 3.06 and using exact settings from video 2 in post.

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this...installer hangs every single time at the 11 minute mark then just “macos could not be installed on this computer”

I did a fresh install of High Sierra 10.13.5 and mostly all seems well; thanks for the great guide!

1. I am confused by these instructions: "Fakesmc should also be updated. Place a copy of it in the Kexts/Other folder on your system drive. Finally APFS.efi should be placed in the drivers64UEFI folder"

Unless I did that myself unconsciously (possible I suppose) it seems that the install process did that automatically? The files are already there when I finish up.

2. For audio I installed the Voodoo HDA 2.90 and AppleHDADisabler kexts. I am using the onboard 4000 graphics of the 8300 i7 SFF. The center channel audio (dialog) is missing using default settings (which have always worked/auto-detected before) for several video player applications. I have managed to do forced manual audio settings in VLC and Plex to match up (brute force trial & error, because truth be known my understanding of the settings is spotty) and I can probably manually force all applications to match but that's awkward.

If I instead go back and take the alternative route for audio, native ALC221, is that likely to make the HDMI audio out more plain vanilla?

To do ALC221 I can just delete the two kexts and go ahead with the process described for ALC221?

Thanks!

Since I have an i5-3470 CPU I can't test to determine if HDMI audio works when using HD4000 and ALC221 audio. Either someone with an HD4000 CPU who is using ALC221 can answer for you or you'll just need to try it and see what happens.

Hey @trs96
Had fun doing my first hp (6300 i5) last week, so I bought an 8300 i7 3770. That said, I was using a GT710 in the 6300, I wanted to use the HD4000 graphics on the i7 machine. I just took my drive out of the 6300 and put it in the 8300 - unfortunately its not booting like I'd expected. It starts to boot up but then hangs with an apple logo and loading bar. I tried booting with verbose on and got the following...any ideas?

Much appreciated.

Are you using a DP to HDMI adapter on the HP 8300 ? Do not have the GT 710 installed on the 8300 if you want to use HD4000. It will default to the graphics card when that is installed.

Correct. I first removed the GT 710, then plugged in a DP to HDMI adapter. I know the adapter/HD4000 works because I was able to boot into my windows drive with it and had no issues. I even installed HS on an extra HD (from scratch starting in the 8300) and it worked, I was just trying to get away from having to re-do all of the audio stuff.

If you made DSDT patches for ALC221 it will probably not work by just swapping a 6300 installed drive into an 8300. Try following the ALC221 guide again on the HD you installed from scratch. What will you be doing with your HP 6300 Pro now that you have the i7 8300 ? With prices of the i7-3770 8300 versions coming down below 200 USD it makes more sense to get one of those from the start.

I think I'm going to use the 6300 for a freenas server or sell it. I only paid $67 for the i5 6300 and got the 8300 for $120. I'll try the fresh install and do the sound again. Too bad we can get that alc221 added to multibeast

Once you have to do this manually you'll appreciate more all the work Toleda and MacMan have done to make most of the audio codecs work in a hackintosh with just a few mouse clicks. So it's really not so bad to see a video guide to learn how DSDT patching works. Because it is fairly complicated I made that ALC221 video for those with no previous experience. Seems to be working for most who try it. The sound quality is much better than what you'll get with Voodoo HDA.
