[Guide] Laptop backlight control using AppleBacklightFixup.kext

I installed High Sierra on apfs. It is loaded normally, the battery indicator is working.
Smooth display fade does not work when the display is switched to and out of sleep mode. Prior to High Sierra, everything worked. I always used
AppleBacklightInjector.kext. I tried to clear the cache, manually reinstalling the driver - it does not help.

It is something changed recently.
No big deal. Move on.

That is, it's not my fault, it's exactly the problem in version 10.13.5 ???

I think the feature disappeared sometime before 10.13.5.
Smooth transitions were never present with the brightness keys, so it is not surprising it went away on sleep/wake transitions.

Means never been present at 10.13 ??
Because at 10.12 and all that is below, a smooth transition, well, at least for me, was always in all versions of the OS, right up to the first OS I installed - 10.8

I really don't remember the last version it was working.

In 10.11 and earlier we used IntelBacklight.kext, which provided smooth transitions with brightness keys, but not on sleep/wake transitions.

Yes I know. But I always used AppleBacklightInjector.text. And the smoothness transition of the illumination at the entrance to sleep and exit from sleep worked up to and including 10.12 inclusive.
But just two days ago I decided to install the High Sierra and this feature disappeared, which is sad.

It was working in 10.13.3
And disappeared since 10.13.4
Oh, thank you. Now I know for sure that I have not made it up. Maybe RehabMan will correct :)

RehabMan,

I'm running quite a while now MacOS on my 4530s -- it works very good and your guide was very easy to follow.
Every update I follow the suggested path: updating the local git, build, download, install. Flawless!
A big thank you is well deserved, so thank you!

Because my 4530s has the macbookpro8,2 as product name, night shift is not natively supported.
So patched CoreBrightness.framework following Pike R Alpha's steps, patching just one byte (09 to 08).
It worked up until now. After the last update to 10.13.5 no more Night Shift.
The tab is there in the display preference but it doesn't work.

Do you think it's something that can be fixed with your AppleBacklightInjector.kext?
Or the DSDT/SSDT of the probook?

Thanks,
Ed
