@kgp do you have the latest apfs.efi for 10.13.5 (non-verbose patched) your last EFI folder only includes the one from 10.13.4

[Rulebreaker01, and attached below the patched non-verbose boot version of apfs.efi, which I am going to implement asap in my EFI-Folder..

I am long time mac user and I am attempting my first Hackintosh build. I purchased an Asus Prime X299 Deluxe and a Intel Core i9-7920X processor.

I started here: UniBeast: Install macOS High Sierra on Any Supported Intel-based PC but got stuck on Step 4 when I could not get past a screen with a circle and a line through it. This brought me to this thread where I saw that someone had successfully gotten a Hackintosh running on an Asus Prime X299 Deluxe motherboard.

The instructions on the first page of this thread are a little intimidating to me. I am tech savvy but I have not spent much time working on computers other than Mac. I have tried to read through many of this 817 page thread and I am feeling a little overwhelmed.

A few questions:

1: If I modify the bios on my Asus Prime X299 Deluxe to make it a Hackintosh will I still be able to boot back to Windows and run it as standard Windows computer? I am little worried about screwing up the bios and bricking it.

2: Where would you start if you were attempting this today? The instructions on the first page of this thread are about a year old and since there are 817 pages to this thread I am wondering if it's a mistake for me to start the process by following the instructions on the first page only to find out on page 800 of this thread that the process has now been simplified.

3. I currently have Windows 10 installed on one of the two M.2 drives that I installed. Can I install my Hackinstosh OS directly to the second M.2 Drive or do I need to install to a standard SSD connected to one the SATA ports?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

As of today, you need to wait a bit as you can no longer create a 10.13.4 installer, need to wait for the new instructions for 10.13.5 unless you had already created a USB installer.

You no longer need to patch the bios, just run the latest one, all instructions are provided on the first page.

You won’t get help with unibeast here.

Basically, to summarise you need to:
Flash to the latest bios
Setup the bios and configure as documented (most important part is to disable CSM)
Create the installer and the clover EFI partition
Boot
Install

ad.1) You do not have to modify your BIOS to turn your system into Hackintosh. What will make it to a Hackintosh is the EFI-Folder and the Clover Boot Loader. Patching your BIOS will just bring further advantages. You can install a dual UEFI boot system Windows/macOS. The Windows partition remains unaffected.

ad.2) The instructions on the first page of this thread are up to date and have been updated once more just few days ago! A further minor update concerning 10.13.5 will likely follow by Monday. By then, just carefully follow all instructions and you will achieve a fully working 10.13.5 iMac Pro System.

ad.3.) You can install macOS directly to your second NVMe drive.

Good luck,

KGP

BTW... :) Being a bit more patient, you might be able to directly follow my upcoming iMac Pro Guide for something that apparently just has been leaked during the last couple of hours :p

@kgp I just attempted to create the 10.13.4 installer, I get 404 errors on many links

That's normal... 10.13.4 is not longer available. I still have to implement the new 10.13.5 links, which will be part of my next guide update.

Let's see if I can implement the new links right now. Give me a couple of minutes

did you first do any update of the EFI partition?

update any efi drivers etc (like apfs.efi) first?

still stuck.

I wonder if it's due to me having 3 SSD in there and it gets confused on which to update...

Yep, I always put the latest apfs.efi file in before I run an update. That's about the only thing I do.

You have to select the newly created partition from Clover "Install....." It usually does one reboot then you're back in.

You can disconnect the other SSDs if you have other macOS installs.

I only keep 1 macOS install active and disconnect the "clone" SSD because I don't want conflicts and it being mounted and being powered on for no reason. I open the side panel and connect it back if I ever need to "restore" or "backup" to the clone SSD.

Thanks for your prompt reply.

Just to clarify, are you saying that I should wait 48 hours for your next update before trying to install using 10.13.5?

I have been sitting on this hardware since January so I can wait a bit longer if it means that things will go smoother. :)

What was leaked in the last couple of hours?
