[Guide] Avoid APFS conversion on High Sierra update or fresh install

I looks like my system after a while, is "slower". My SSD is a Samsung 840 pro AFPS formatted (unfortunately I didn't pay attention when I upgraded...) and with disabled TRIM as you recommended.
Is there any command to launch a one time TRIM to see if it helps my system ? (Like the linux fstrim ?)

Thanks

Read FAQ, "Problem Reporting" again. Carefully. Attach all requested files/output.

Use the gen_debug.sh tool mentioned in the FAQ, that way it is less likely you'll omit something.

But you should probably install on HFS+J (see instructions, post #1) instead of APFS.

Yes sorry for not reporting the problem's file. I searched the forum for AFPS and didn't notice this thread was for laptop.
Anyway, enabling TRIM makes my boot slower but performance are back even if not perfect...

With Black Magic Speed Test with TRIM disabled it was 10mb/s write (yes 10mb/s...) and 300mb/s read. Now, with TRIM enabled it's 250mb/s write and 500mb/s read. It should be faster, it was with El Capitan HFS+J (450/500).

My SSD is a Samsung 840 pro 256mb.

Lately, I moved a lot of files on my system probably 1To in a couple of days (archiving files) which is probably why the performances where so much degraded.

This guy seems to have the same problem as I did : http://www.martinzimelka.com/homepage/Blog/Entries/2015/4/8_Samsung_840_Pro_really_needs_TRIM.html

As far as I'm concerned, problem reporting requirements are same for laptop vs. desktop.

Hey guys, so is the current consensus that APFS should still be avoided with non-Apple drives, I.e in Hackintoshes? I was just wondering if, seeing as we’re at a fairly mature stage with macOS now, there may be some benefit. If there’s discussion of this anywhere I’d appreciate a link, I have backups (obviously) so I may try if there’s nothing current out there. Not sure how I’d really judge beyond subjective feel etc however. I don’t know why I care, my NVME is crazy fast (sorry to be douchey but it is)

APFS is something you can try and if it seems to cause problems, use HFS+J instead.

How long does the no-convert script take to run. I just ran it on a fresh install, and it been 15 minutes and it’s still running. What the heck is it doing?

Oh my, it’s doing a find for everything in volumes. That means it’s searchng the home dir. ok. Now i see what’s its going, and I will just do it manually.

What are you referring to? Post #1 makes no mention of any "no-convert" script.

Thanks, so we need redo all this guide even update system, right sir?
It is new, likely buggy. Some may want to avoid until a later release. Like I saw written elsewhere, "now the true beta test begins".

Also, since it is new, it is likely there are various 3rd party tools/utilities that will not work with it until the software vendor updates.

Noticed on one of my systems (Crucial M4 SSD) that I had to disable the TRIM patch. With TRIM, getting slow boots, I think fsck was running each time, so slow that battery status failed (due to battery code starting too soon, before the system was ready, was able to fix that by changing "FirstPollDelay" from 4000 to 16000, but that problem went away when I disabled TRIM). For now, running that system withou the TRIM patch.
