Has anyone been able to successfully test the card reader usb hub (header? am I using the right word?) on the 8300 usdt motherboard for use as a connection for one of the wifi adapters on ebay that has the Bluetooth connection?

OR: What's the best way / current recommendation to get native wifi/Bluetooth / continuity/handoff on 8300 usdt specifically?

It looks like I may have sorted it out myself. In config.plist changed ig-platform-id to 0x01620005 for HD4000, installed Whatevergreen.kext, Lilu.kext and enabled -rad4200 as a boot flag. The freezing has stopped for awhile and system appears to be stable. I must say that even though the RX 560 is technically quite slower than the 1050 Ti, it performs so much better in macOS. Animations such as stacks are buttery smooth, dual monitors works without hiccups and no more random reboots after wake from sleep. Definitely worth the downgrade... er, I mean upgrade.

If you're talking about just connecting the USB cable from the PCIe adapter to the motherboard, then it should work since the media header is essentially just a USB 2.0 header (at least on my HP 8300 CMT).

I'm using a PCIe Wi-Fi adapter with built in external antennas, the BCM943224HMS card and installed it onto one of my PCIe x1 slots. USB cable from the card to one of the USB motherboard headers. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Handoff and Continuity all works fine. Total cost was less than $20.

What did you need to do to get the DW1520 Broadcom card to work ? I don't believe that it is OOB with HS but I've never tried one before.

That's exactly what I'm doing for the time being. :)

As for an alternate card suggestion, I was just asking because this machine is rock solid and has made me feel completely comfortable in building a ground up hackintosh. So I could also use this same RX560 card in my hackintosh down the road, or get an alternate AMD-based card that is out-of-the-box High Sierra friendly but with two DisplayPorts.
Looks like the AMD RX570 or RX580 are the best choices for full height cards you'd use in a custom built. They all have 2 or 3 DP 1.4 outputs so multi 4K monitors are easy to get working at 60 Hz with High Sierra 13.4 or greater. Sapphire branded cards seem to have the best compatibility. Support should get even better with 10.14 next Fall.

Yup, after doing a bit of research on this, I came to the same conclusion. Thanks.

The good news is that I have a Mid-2010 Mac Pro (5,1), which I also just upgraded to High Sierra. I popped in that cheap RX 560 that I bought for my CustomMac (HP 8300 SFF) and it too worked like a charm under High Sierra with the Mac Pro 5,1. So if anyone has a Mac Pro 5,1 that's a bit long in the tooth, and they want 4k, that card is cheap and works great.

Yes, with that card I have the same issue on my Mac Pro with there only being one DisplayPort output and thus, the second monitor is HDMI @ 30hz only and has non-accurate color, but the main monitor is 4k @ 60Hz with my Mid-2010 Mac Pro 5,1. It really feels like a new computer.

I plan on getting a Sapphire Pulse RX580 for my ground up hackintosh, and while decide on which parts to get, I can order the RX580 card first and place it into my Mid-2010 Mac Pro 5,1 for dual DisplayPort glory. Just ordered a Mac Pro Dual 6 pin to 8 pin power cable as well as this will be needed, and that will buy me some time to keep this Mac Pro going with the dual 4k displays while I create my replacement hackintosh. All great info, and I really would not have known all of this stuff without first dipping my toe into the hackintosh world with your HP 8300 guide, @trs96 so thanks again.

I have pretty much the same machine as you and my 10.13.4 upgrade was very smooth.

The update on my SFF/USDT to 10.13.4 was smooth until it attempted to boot up, post-update. Then I got this error (image attached). I have no idea what to do now. I can't find any fix. Help/insight would be greatly appreciated.

I tried finishing the update by booting from the USB install thumb drive and got this (image attached). Then I updated clover to the latest on the system drive; no joy. I updated clover on the USB install thumb drive, and now I get the same (original) error no matter what I boot from.

Then I placed FakeSMC in the EFI>Kext>Other folder on the boot drive, and I get the error in the image attached.

EDIT: I solved the issue and completed the update by deleting the combo installer I downloaded, and updating through the App store.

I have a question, couldn't be successful with a Sandy bridge cpu like the 2500k? I already have one that's not being used and was wondering if I'd be able to use it on the USDT 8300. Also, is there anyone using a wifi card on the usdt 8300? Which card did you go with?

Putting a Sandy Bridge CPU in a motherboard designed for Ivy Bridge should not be a problem at all. The only difference is that the PCI-e 3.0 slot will operate in PCI-e 2.0 mode because Sandy Bridge CPUs do not support PCI-e 3.0. This might tricky though, considering it's an HP.

For wifi, I use a TP Link Archer T4U. It requires a driver install, but is really fast and works great.

Hidy-ho. Sleep problem with my 8300 CMT/HD4000/High Sierra rig.
Running Bios 3.06 and a recently 2018-001 Security updated High Sierra.
I have been seeing three behaviors:
1) If I manually put to sleep and wake in a couple of minutes - no problem
2) If I let it go to sleep and then wake in 4 hours, I get the slashed-circle "ghostbusters" sign in the middle of the screen, which I believe comes from Clover. The system needs to be power cycled to reboot.
3) If I let it go to sleep and try to wake it after 8+ hours, the system is completely powered-off and reboots fine.

Anyone have any troubleshooting advice?
