Error installing High Sierra on Fusion Drive

Ok, now I get the idea with the creation of the recovery partion before creating the fusion drive.

Many thanks for your explanation!

I haven't used CCC before, but it seems to do the trick with getting the Recovery partition into the right place.

@Adam1203 I have a problem, I already “burned” my previous Fusion installation, but I have a clone made by CCC on another internal drive. Therefore, I can boot from the cloned drive (however, I need to use the clover boot from a USB stick that I created with unibeast) and create a FusionDrive from the HDD and SSD. That part is clear. Now, I wanted to install a clean HS installation (without recloning from the cloned drive), but after I boot from the installation USB, start the install, select the new FusionDrive as install location, then reboot to finish the installation, however, in Clover boot options, I don’t have the possibility to boot from the installation drive to finish the installation, can you help?

Try selecting your USB drive using the BIOS boot options (usually F12).

Hi guys,

I have a Sierra hack with a Fusion Drive, and I'd like to upgrade it to High Sierra 10.13.4 directly using the latest installer.

Is it safe to say that with Clover 4439, the upgrade should just work by running the installer without any particular tweak ?
My Boot OS X is currently on the SSD (disk0s3) and Recovery HD on the HDD (disk1s3), if that matters.

Thanks

Using the latest version of Clover available, I’ve been able to install the last few updates without needing any extra tweaks. Just be sure to select the right partition each time the computer reboots. (You may need to choose the installer partition more than once to get through all the stages. It will disappear when it’s time to boot from the normal partition again.)

Sounds good, but you mean High Sierra point updates right ?
I'm talking about upgrading Sierra to High Sierra, not sure if that will work as easily ?

That's a fair point. I was talking about point updates.

I initially had a hard time going from Sierra to High Sierra because the second-stage installer would not boot off my Fusion drive. I had to use the cloning method that has been discussed elsewhere in this thread. Eventually, however, I found a workaround for the point updates (see earlier in the thread). After several versions of Clover, however, the issue was fixed, and now point updates go very smoothly (no workaround required).

Because the Clover devs fixed the Fusion problem, that eliminates one obstacle to doing a full upgrade. Many users, including myself, also ran into a problem where the following error message would come up when booting the installer: "The path /System/Installation/Packages/OSInstall.mpkg appears to be missing or damaged." For me, it was some kind of NVRAM issue. I figured out a weird workaround that involved temporarily enabling the EmuVariablesUefi-64 driver, but I was never entirely sure why it worked. (I think it allowed me to intercept the NVRAM changes made by the first-stage installer before they could be written to the hardware and read by the second-stage installer.) I haven't needed to do this with any of the point updates, as far as I can recall, but I don't know if it's still an issue with the full upgrade.

Finally, there's all the usual concerns about kexts, patches, etc. for your particular hardware. I'd recommend checking some of the other threads to see what might be applicable to your machines. USB 3.0 ports and graphics cards seem to be among the common sticking points. (I recently switched to a Radeon RX 560 which, as of 10.13.4, is mostly supported natively, so that's one less updating headache for me.)
