I still use this nice little machine as my daily driver at home. I am currently running MacOS High Sierra 10.13.2 (17C205) and it is a great little system for what I have invested. Beyond basic web surfing/email/etc., I use it for programming (Angular, React, Python etc.), running Linux and Windows VM's, photo editing, and some basic video editing (DaVinci Resolve, Camtasia, iMovie)

Thanks a lot for your response, I was away for a while. My only aim is to salvage My dead iMac, nothing more than that. A basic computer. Do you have installation for this particular build please?

Hi, you are welcome, glad my response was helpful.

In post 194, this shows the fresh install of 10.13.1. The current version will be similar .

In post 200, I updated to 10.13.2

In post 206, I updated to 10.13.2 Supplemental (17C205) . This is what I am still running.

This should give a good idea of how to install and update MacOS High Sierra on this particular system. Other systems will be similar, but will vary due to hardware differences. Hope this helps.

Updated to High Sierra 10.13.4 (17E199)
All is working great thus far. Performance is good on 10.13.4 using the latest Nvidia drivers with my GTX950, but please note the two additional kexts added for the Nvidia graphic drivers to work properly.

I did the following to update:
  • Backup!
  • Mounted EFI and updated apfs.efi to the 10.13.4 version.
    • [EFI]/EFI/CLOVER/drivers64UEFI/apfs.efi
  • Left Clover at r4334
  • Installed MacOS 10.13.4 Update from the App Store (also did iTunes, Xcode
  • It will reboot several times during the update as noted here.
  • After it rebooted into the OS the final time, I installed the latest Nvidia Web Driver from System Preferences.
    • GPU Driver Version was 387.10.10.10.30.103
  • Rebooted
  • Nvidia Cuda driver needed to be updated to v387.178
  • The latest Nvidia drivers were glitchy as I had feared from all the reports. No worries, I installed the following two kexts, rebooted, and all is working swimmingly again.
    1. [EFI]/EFI/CLOVER/kexts/Other/Lilu.kext
    2. [EFI]/EFI/CLOVER/kexts/Other/NvidiaGraphicsFixup.kext

Updated to macOS High Sierra 10.13.4 Security Update (17E202)
This was an easy and painless update since I was already on 10.13.4. Audio is good, system is stable and performing great, just as reported for 10.13.4.

I did the following to update:
  • apfs.efi and kexts stayed the same versions as on 10.13.4 (as shown in the post just before this one).
  • Left Clover at r4334
  • Installed 10.13.4 Security Update from the App Store.
  • It will reboot and you will need to reboot from the temporary installer icon in Clover at least once as the update progresses.
  • After it rebooted into the OS, I installed the latest Nvidia Web Driver from System Preferences.
    • GPU Driver Version was 387.10.10.10.30.107
  • Rebooted
  • Nvidia Cuda driver did not need to be updated, still good at v387.178

I am stuck at creating the USB install Disk with Unibeast 8. Both computers (Hackintosh 10.12.0 and real iMac Yosemite 10.10.5) are not been able to create a working install Disk (Error: "Couldn't create installer"). It looks like there is a bug in Unibeast 8 … this is so sad.

My Problem:

Are there any alternatives to create a working High Sierra USB install Disk without Unibeast.app?

First step would be to try another USB 2.0 drive in a USB 2.0 port. The ones on the back panel under Ethernet are best.
There is also the Create Install Media method which you can find here: https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/...h-sierra-public-beta-installation-usb.225520/ Use the UEFI version for your motherboard.

First of all, thanks for your help! I've already tested the USB3 stick by creating a working macOS Sierra USB install Disk with Unibeast 7 in a USB2 port.

Do I need to edit the config.plist when I use the alternative method? Or can I grab the example config.plist?

Are you trying to make an UniBeast Installation USB thumb drive for High Sierra? UniBeast v8xx is for High Sierra. v7xx is for Sierra. Make sure you have the correct version for the macOS version you're using.

For macOS HighSierra I've used the latest Unibeast 8 app (got the full copy of high sierra 5.22gb from a third party tool - here).
