can anybody confirm if they boot with a disc unplugged from a SATA port on this motherboard then when they plug such disc to the SATA port the disc is not recognized even if they have switched on Hot Swap in the Bios?
This way I know it's not just me...
Thanks everyone in advance!!

@kgp
Would the patch to turn SATA hard disk into external hard disc work to fix this issue?
Do you remember where it is on this thread?

No idea... I don't need that patch... However, I checked it out yesterday and the patch just turned all internal SATA disks to external...

can you point to where I can find that patch so I test and see if it makes any difference?

Aks for replacement... Did you buy at Amazon? If so, there should not be any problem for the replacement..
It was mindfactory, not sure how good their service is. I guess I will figure out soon.

Ummm... good luck.. I told you to buy at Amazon ..

I can confirm in Italy too Amazon is the one of the few that's really behind the customer in terms of warranty , replacement and returning the items.

I once more did the work for you. I also had to search for it again ... post #4986

Better if they would be only mounted in the finder and not on the desktop.. As I say, I don't need that patch at all..

the patch allows for a disc previously not attached to a sata port to be recognized.
Without this patch disc must be attached to a sata port prior to boot in order to be recognized and mounted (Finder and Disk Utility)
The downside you see internal discs as external.

Ehy @kgp...the PCIe 4 port SATA board works too now!
Moved to slot PCIEX1_2 ---> Slot 5

Bingo!

I always preferred RAID 6 or RAID 10.

I had a 24TB Dell server going a while back and we upgraded to 10GbE. I might have to get a NAS and 10GbE like the ones @kgp posted and tuck it away in the closet since drives are so much bigger now.

I would have preferred TB3 Lacie Big Disk or something but the expense ....:(

My primary backup now is a 16TB RAID 10 CineRaid enclosure -- 4 IronWolf 8TB drives. I use it on many macs/hacks so it makes sense to just physically move it from USB 3 port to USB 3 port. I should look into a NAS, but I need one that just presents the USB3 drive to the network.
