Hi!

I know this thread is outdated, but I'm wondering if this card works with the following motherboards: Z170-PRO-GAMING, since Z170 PRO is specified.

I just ordered the card, I should have checked before.

Appreciate the answers alot!

Thanks,

J.

I checked the user guide for your motherboard (PDF from the Web site). Pages 1-2 & 1-3. There doesn't seem to be the required 5-pin mobo header to connect the PCIe card to the mobo. As others have said, it's not as simple as just buying the card & installing. The mobo **must** support the TB AIC (which means it needs the TB header). Take a look at the 2 attachments from the user guide from my X99 Deluxe. You'll see item #11 is the mobo's TB header.

I have ASUS ROG MAXIMUS IX HERO motherboard and have gotten this card to work in Windows 10. I can't seem to figure out why it won't work in El Capitan. If I change the BIOS setting to just enable PCIe, it will boot but won't recognize the Thunderbolt drive. If fully enable, thunderbolt the macOS wont load, and I'll just get an error.
Hey Jake! I have been trying to figure out how to get that card to work for my Asus Maximus IX Hero with no luck for Windows 10. Is there anyway you can point me in the rite direction? I would really appreciate it!!!

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but I figure people might know a lot more about this issue by now . . . I have a z97 Asus Pro which DOES have a Thunderbolt header on the mobo. I have read reports online of people getting it to work with Thunderbolt 3 PCIe cards providing the right PCIe v3 slot is available since there are BIOS settings to tweak.

I currently run my audio interface (FF800) via Firewire (SYBA card) but it would be nice to think in terms of eventually upgrading to thunderbolt/USB-C class audio interfaces with this machine; i.e., I've zero interest in running 5k displays or any of that malarky. My interest is purely audio interfaces so true Thunderbolt 3 speeds ' that important, while a solid connection at slower speeds is.

And yes I've read the OP with the list of suitable boards - just wondering if anyone here can corroborate what I've read online re z97 boards with the TB header? Thanks

I'm running the Asus Sabertooth Z170 with the Thunderbolt EX3 installed. Have yet to get it working. No idea what I'm doing wrong.
