Thank for that idea. I think it can see the disk, maybe I am wrong.

Before trying to do the initial install, I connected the drive to a Linux machine and used to Gparted to reformat the drive to GPT.

Another thing, and I apologize for being so ignorant, the display port on the HP 8300 does not work, I am trying to do this via the video card, a Zotac Nvidia GE Force GT 710, which appears to work.

I'm a noob but i had the same problem with a 8300 that had windows on it.
I guees your problem is that installer can't see the disk?
If you don't have anything that needs to be saved on the disk try to partition it with terminal, you can start terminal from the installer. Check the disk number with :

diskutil list

When you know the number use this command to partition the whole disk, replace 'disk2' with your number':

diskutil partitionDisk /dev/disk2 GPT JHFS+ New 0b

After i did this installer found the disk and the installation could begin.

Despite having reformatted the SSD w Gparted, the SSD is not appearing by brand name under UEFI , or device number, eg, SATA0, I will try to reformat it again tomorrow w Gparted and see if it shows up under UEFI along w usb drive.

Thank you.

I reformatted the SSD using Gparted with an Ubuntu 14.04 CD, under try Ubuntu. I checked it in a Terminal window, was there.
Bios still can't see it, under UEFI , it sees the Sandisk usb but not the SSD.
Anyone have any ideas.
Thank you
OS

I installed an old version of Linux, Ubuntu 14.04, didn't do updates etc, restarted and the UEFI BIOS could see the drive, did the install, go to grey screen and spinning color wheel of death.
Some progress.

I have an HP 8300 USDT w/ i7-3770s with high Sierra. It boots up and runs just fine until I plug in my 8TB Easystore. If I plug it in after its up and running everything is fine. If I plug it in and then turn it on it will not go past the HP splash screen. Google hasn't returned anything to fix it.

My plan is to run this headless and tucked away. Mostly as a Plex/File server and a computer to play around with. I'd like to find a fix but if I just have to wait to plug in the drive until it's started up I'll do that since it will only be a problem if the computer restarts or shuts down.

Have you tried to see whether a powered hub helps?

@ElGordito, please update your profile (personal details) with your Motherboard, CPU and Graphics Card.
If you have a prebuilt computer enter make and model instead of motherboard (Mobo).

Hi,
Would like to mention that I had success setting up sound via AppleALC project (https://github.com/vit9696/AppleALC) which support Realtek ALC221 chip used by HP 6300 / HP 8300 family.

Sound seems better than with "VoodooHDA method" (higher volume, clear sound without distorsion) so far. :mrgreen:

Output line and front right jack are working as expected (as with "Voodoo method").
Nevertheless the front left jack (with microphone) is still not working (as with "Voodoo method"). This is probably due to a wrong "PinConfigurations" settings which I have not sorted out yet.

Installation procedure I used is as follow ...
- Create your DSDT -> (https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/guide-patching-laptop-dsdt-ssdts.152573/).
- Patch your DSDT with 2 patches -> (https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/guide-patching-laptop-dsdt-ssdts.152573/):
- IRQ Fix
- HDEF to look like this (it's probably fine to leave "PinConfigurations" empty as it's overwritten by AppleALC.kext anyway) ...
Code:
Method (_DSM, 4, NotSerialized)
            {
                If (LEqual (Arg2, Zero)) { Return (Buffer() { 0x03 } ) }
                Return (Package()
                {
                    "device-id", Buffer() { 0x20, 0x1E, 0x00, 0x00 },
                    "layout-id", Buffer() { 11, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00 },
                    "codec-id", Buffer() { 0x21, 0x02, 0xEC, 0x10 },
                    "hda-gfx", Buffer() { "onboard-1" },
                    "name", Buffer() { "pci8086,1e20" },
                    "built-in", Buffer() { 0x00 },
                    "PinConfigurations", Buffer() { 0x40, 0x40, 0x2b, 0x00, 0x30, 0x01, 0x10, 0x90, 0x10, 0x30, 0x8b, 0x00, 0x60, 0x90, 0xab, 0x01, 0xe0, 0x00, 0x56, 0x28 },
                    //"MaximumBootBeepVolume", 77,
                })
            }
- Remove AppleHDADisabler.kext & VoodooHDA.kext from your system (Clover kext folders or /L/E).
- Install AppleALC.kext & Lilu.kext in L/E, restore a vanilla version of AppleHDA.kext in /S/L/E.
- Reboot and cross fingers.

And voilà, you're done.
Hope this will help someone.
Next step is to find the correct "PinConfigurations" to get the front left jack to work as expected. Will keep you informed if I succeed.

NB: You should test this from a test USB drive to ensure your system is booting/running fine prior to making this changes to your live system.

Hi, Nitrouze.

Thanks very much for figuring this out. I added the two patches to DSDT and am using HDA audio as I type this. The audio is MUCH cleaner, clearer, and louder. Huge improvement over VoodooHDA.

The only down side is that I do not have HDMI audio now, but I will try some things to enable it.

Thank you!!

Edit:
HDMI audio can be easily restored by just adding the HDMIAudio.kext. Find the kext here: https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/clover-hdmi-audio-for-nvidia-amd-cards-easy-way.145399/
