[Solved] Radeon RX 580 not working

Status
Not open for further replies.
I was maybe too excited ... the performance still doesn't compare to the performance reported by other users. This wouldn't be critical, but what the problem is that FCPX is freezing very often. Also QuickTime freezes time to time, so there is definitely something wrong still ...

Also I can't understand why the card doesn't work properly with both power connectors plugged in. In that state many apps refuse to use or even recognise the GPU.

Any ideas?

Can you post your config.plist you may have too much integrated graphics support if the GPU isn't recognized. Is the display cable connected to the graphics card or motherboard?

Hi,

my system is constantly crashing after I installed a new GPU Radeon RX 580 and upgraded to High Sierra.

The most times the system freezes while using GPU intensive applications like Motion of Final Cut Pro.

This is the last part (which I find to be relevant) of the log before crashing:

Motion[536]: assertion failed: 17C88: libxpc.dylib + 72637 [F7E5F1BC-614B-39CB-B6CE-92A9C7B7EC0B]: 0x89

com.apple.xpc.launchd[1] (com.apple.xpc.launchd.domain.user.26): com.apple.pluginkit.pkd (lint): Service sets EnableTransactions=false and EnablePressuredExit=true, which makes no sense. Enabling Transactions.
com.apple.xpc.launchd[1] (com.apple.quicklook[751]): Endpoint has been activated through legacy launch(3) APIs. Please switch to XPC or bootstrap_check_in(): com.apple.quicklook

Any ideas how to solve this?

Thanks!

Hi, the display cable is of course connected to the graphics card.

Here is my config.

So it looks like the problem is not gone. Something happens time to time and the performance drops again without an obvious reason. I have ty system freezing now every few minutes of work in FCPX or Motion.

I had a look in the system log and these are the last lines before the crash:

Motion[536]: assertion failed: 17C88: libxpc.dylib + 72637 [F7E5F1BC-614B-39CB-B6CE-92A9C7B7EC0B]: 0x89

Now I tried to turn on RadeonDeInit hoping that it would help. It crashes less often but it still crashes.

Try this plist. I changed the definition to iMac 18.3 the Skylake and 17.1 definition has been causing issues since Sierra 12.6 even though it has the correct CPU users report better performance with 18.2-18.3 system definition. Try to set bios IGPU to 64mb minimum allocated ram, disable multiscreen and set PEG as primary display output. This should give you enough integrated graphics support to help smooth out FCPX.

Hi,

thank You! I have actually my iGPU disabled in Bios, as when it was on, it made problems in FCPX.

Second thing is that I will switch today to Kaby Lake 7700K. Is the iMac 18,3 good for this?

Hi,

can I keep my original serial Nr. and board serial? I have several software which checks the serial Nr. and the license it bound to it. I don't want to deactivate all and activate again ...

A few more questions to the config:

1) What is "UseARTFrequency"?
2) What is "AddDTGP"?

Thanks!

Hi, so now I'm using the config You sent to me and I kept the serial number. I will report if there are any changes. For now, the GPU performance is the same.
