Thanks erik!

I'm using the Fatal1ty version of the motherboard, and I was having trouble booting the USB installer.
It seems that none of the USB ports are USB 2.0, or that I couldn't find the right way to configure the BIOS to make the board boot on the USB key.

Just copying your CLOVER folder to the EFI partition did the trick and allowed me to boot an High Sierra install on an external disk.

Now, I can't manage to boot the disk when plugging it as an internal disk. Any idea what might be wrong?
You could just plug in a USB dongle or cable ...

I don't understand. Which problem would that solve: booting when the drive is plugged internally, or for the installation?

It would solve installation problems, because the hub or cable will turn your USB 3 drive into a USB 2 drive ...
That's a clever idea, thanks!

Now to find a USB 2 cable after I ditched all my USB 2 hubs a while ago… :D

Hi michelv: I ordered this cable for $6 on Amazon that worked without problems. I'm now up and running and even managed to get my GTX 1080 working with the Nvidia drivers too. I'm starting to get things in order...

Now I'm working on getting my BCM94352Z card operational. I went back to eriks original post to see if there was any specific procedure that he followed to get his card running. I had no problem installing from a hardware standpoint, I know it's operational as it was detected when I booted my machine into Windows to see if the card was there.

The hardware install was much easier compared to getting this up and running on OSX! I attempted to follow the PCIe Half Mini v2 guide here but my head was spun around, I tried being resourceful but the readme file says I have to install FakePCIID via KextWizard, I wasn't sure if the Broadcom text had to be done this way as well. The more I read the worse it got. I was much to confused to hit the install button on Kext Wizard never mind doing the kext edits on the plist. The guide has 291 pages! Is there an easier way to go about getting this card working? Did everyone on tonymac major in Computer Science?

Needless to say I would be most appreciative of the slightest bit of direction or kind assistance.

I just received the same cable, good to know that it'll work. :)

As for the wifi card issue, if it's not natively recognized it's a hassle indeed. I ordered a Macbook's card to avoid issues, still waiting for the adapter to get in the mail. I did manage to use an AzureWave card in my ThinkPad x220 so I must have done something with FakePCIID, but I can't remember which steps had to be followed (the guide is indeed comprehensive but it's hard to find the right information for one's exact model…).

1: Make sure you have the parts running in Bios ...
2: these kext are all you need in High Sierra

erik, have you measured the power consumption of this build? I'm thinking about making something similar, but with a 90w picoPSU since I already have one. With the non-K chips having a 65w TDP, I'm wondering if the 90w picoPSU would do the job even when the CPU is in a turbo state.

Edit: the i5-8400 appears to max out at ~50w under full load, so a 90w picoPSU should do the job. That said, maybe the 160w model could power a i7-8700 + RX 460, which would be even nicer!

Getting closer! I installed the 4 extensions from the screenshot using Kext Wizard to my System/Library/Extensions folder. I then restarted my computer and now have full-speed working Wi-Fi. However Bluetooth isn't working and doesn't show up as an option in System preferences. What might I attempt next to troubleshoot? Thanks so much for your help so far!
