I have a couple of TB3/USB-C ports on my Hack. They sort of work, which is nice. But the current state of support leaves a lot to be desired. Sleep doesn't work properly for me because of these ports. Can't hot swap TB3 devices. TB devices do not show up in about this Mac. Etc.

I have looked at these ports with ioreg in El Cap, Sierra and High Sierra. Apparently, Apple is fleshing out support for these ports with every update. But support for our Hacks is still sketchy.

Let's collect tips/ideas/patches in this thread.

Now for TB 3, after install and MultiBeast, the computer started normally and seems to be fully functioning. I realized, when I bought these parts, that the installation of Sierra would be easy. I wasn't, however, convinced that the Thunderbolt functionality would work, and, as I am an audio engineer, I needed the Thunderbolt ports to work most of all because my hardware audio interface and converters connects via TB2. To get them running, I had to unplug my drives and go back into the BIOS and change some of the Thunderbolt settings. I had to set the Thunderbolt to accept Legacy, enabled the Thunderbolt boot support and also enabled the Ignore Thunderbolt Option ROM; saved settings, rebooted into Sierra and the ports worked. I connect to the USB c/TB3 port on the motherboard to the Star Tech adapter and, then, to my Apollo 8. Only hiccup is that the interface needs to be connected and on before starting the computer. That seems to be the only issue and works wonders.

STEP BY STEP THUNDERBOLT 3 SETUP:

STEP 1: Download Windows 10 Trial mode and install to disk. (Activation not required)
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10/

STEP 2: Update Gigabyte Z170X-UD5-TH BIOS to F5 or greater
http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5479&kw=GA-Z170X-UD5 TH1.0#bios

STEP 5: Download and install the latest Thunderbolt Driver and Software (16.1.47.275)
http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5479&kw=GA-Z170X-UD5 TH1.0#driver

STEP 4: Download and install Thunderbolt FW Update Tool (B16.0818.1)
http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5479&kw=GA-Z170X-UD5 TH1.0#utility

STEP 5: Navigate to This PC > Local Disk > Program Files (x86) > GIGABYTE > FlashTBT > FlashTBT_100

STEP 6: Run FlashTBT_100 Application

STEP 7: Shut down computer and unplug power cable for 30 seconds

At this point you can either boot Windows or OS X to test functionality of various adapters. As far as my Startech adapter and older Thunderbolt peripherals go, Thunderbolt 3 works, but like Thunderbolt 2, Thunderbolt 3 devices cannot hotswap. User must connect any adapters and devices at boot time in order for devices to mount.

After taking the above steps, TB(3) works, but the ports behave weird when the computer goes to sleep, devices don't show up on the TB port, no hot swapping, no TB video on my board(because Gigabyte doesn't update its TB firmware) etc.
TB was and is half-baked.

TB needs proper patching, just like USB was patched(thanks, Rehabman) and AMD cards were patched by Vit9696(thanks!) and audio by Toleda(Hurray!)

I'm very experienced in making Hackintosh's and I've collected information all these years and I almost have all the pieces to this puzzle that I put together. I really hope you see this message and I would also like to change my name on here as I made that name a very long time ago and no longer like the name moomoo123. I would like to change it to 808chopo.
