Motherboard
MSI Z370i Pro Gaming Carbon AC
CPU
i3-8100
Graphics
RX 460
Mobile Phone
  1. iOS
I have working hackintosh build with the following specs:

  • i5-6500
  • Asus Z170i Pro Gaming
  • Gigabyte RX460 4GB
  • 128GB Corsair SSD
  • 8GB HyperX RAM
Everything works fine with few kexts installed to make all working.
  • FakeSMC with HW plugins
  • IntelMausiEthernet
  • Lilu + Whatevergreen for my GPU (I have read that I can get rid of this with the latest Clover and some config.plist options, haven't tried yet)
I also have a SSDT for my power management and an SSDT for my USB limit configurations.
With my current config, everything is working from sleep/wake, audio + HDMI audio, builtin bluetooth, power management, iMessage, app store, etc.

My issue is when I open a game on Steam, Dota 2, the overall performance of macOS is laggy. I'm not even on a game yet, just opened Dota 2 and on the main menu, then when I navigate back to Finder or just hovering on my dock with the animation, it feels very slow. Animations are laggy. Dragging windows is also laggy. But when I quit Dota 2, the performance goes back. Everything will be silky smooth again. Haven't tried with any other games, I only have Dota 2.

Opening Adobe CC apps, PS and AI, at the same time does not give me this issue so I think its an issue with Dota 2 or is this a hardware limitation for my RX460 GPU?

Is this performance expected with this card? Or maybe I need to tweak something to make it better?

I appreciate some feedback here and some directions where to start.

TIA,
Francisco

Hi,

Do you have TRIM enabled for you SSD?. Try to disable it, on Terminal.app -> sudo trim force disable; then reboot.

I do have TRIM enabled. I'm also on APFS. I don't have issue of slow booting just like others are reporting with apfs and TRIM enabled.
I will try to disable and check the performance.

Hi,

I didn't have booting performance issue when I was TRIM enabled, but I had really bad performance on system, copying files and loading apps.
