Hi Fellas,

I'm planning to build a new Hackintosh mainly for audio/music production, I would like to know if the specs below are compatible and good enough.

-Intel - Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor
-Corsair - H60 54.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
-Gigabyte - GA-Z270X-UD5 TH ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
-G.Skill - Trident Z RGB 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3200 Memory
-Crucial - MX300 525GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
-Sapphire - Radeon RX 580 4GB NITRO+ Video Card
-Fractal Design - Focus G (White) ATX Mid Tower Case
-Corsair - RMx 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply
-TP-Link - Archer T9E PCI-Express x1 802.11a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi Adapter

And one more question how to prepare the bootable mac os without owning a mac.

Thanks.

any reason for a 6700k over a 7700k? if there is no substantial cost saving, go with the 7700k. but tbh id be looking at a coffee lake i5 build if i were to build a pc now. 6 cores for the price of 4.

h60 is bottom end aio water cooling. gets outperformed by much cheaper air coolers, plus you have pump and fan noise. for what? higher cost and air cooling temps? pointless. either go with a decent air cooler for less, or a 240mm aio water cooler, or even a high end air cooler like a noctua d15. google reviews of cpu coolers before you purchase to make an informed decision.

cant see the point of that graphics card for your usage. video editing or gaming, cool, but audio its a waste of
money. use onboard or a cheap low end card.

case, i would use something like a fractal r5. its padded for noise insulation. ive seen one in person, and its impossible to tell the system is even on with it.

wifi card i would use a genuine BCM94360CD card with an adapter, but its personal preference

Thanks for the awesome advice, but I was thinking of the 6700k because it’s the most compatible Im not sure if the 7700k and the coffee lake would be natively compatible. Regarding the vga I might do some video editing but not that heavy editing, the cpu cooler I’ll look for it more in depth. One more thing do you think there’s a way to prepare mac os bootable without owning a mac?

Thanks,

HT

nah, 7700k is also fully supported.

i would look up coffee lake builds, from the looks of it, they are working fine natively. theres a couple guides already, and from what i can see, makes sense to go that route, but have a look for yourself.

regarding preparing osx, you need to check the rules.

@HTashjian
When you use the 7700K and at least 10.12.6 you don't have to fake the CPUID any longer. Will be best to use High Sierra with a Kaby Lake system if you can. If not, download Sierra from the Mac App Store when using a real Mac that is running any version of macOS from Lion through Sierra, not a Windows PC. Then make your Unibeast installer with Sierra. It is still available for download. Click through the following link:

this isnt the case.

this thread details that fakecpuid only needs to be used when the igpu is used.

https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/...rus-ug-16gb-ram-2x-ssd-zotac-gtx-1080.235987/
this thread specifically mentions the reason why
Luckily the CPU ID itself is compatible to Kaby Lake 7700K CPU and only last Hex digit changed 0x000906E9 vs 0x000906EA.
Only needed when grpahics iGPU is active.
For graphics HD630 function I realized FakeCPU, Fake IntelGFX ID and igx-platform ID is necessary anyway, maybe support comes with later minor macOS update.

CPU 0x000906E9
ig-platform-id 0x59120003
IntelGFX 0x59128086

The Graphics IDs are neccessary because 0E92 id of UHD630 is not listed in AppleIntelKBLGraphicsFramebuffer.kext.

at this point in time, i would strongly advise against purchasing a new kaby lake system

I'm not referring to an 8700K Coffee Lake system. To a 7700K Kaby lake system. The 7700K used to need a fakeCPUID before 10.12.6. The OP was going to use a 6700K instead with Z270 because he thought that the 7700K isn't compatible OOB. I was stating that you "don't" need to use a fake CPUID anyway, you may have misread that.

seeing as he doesnt have the os yet, his only available option would be 10.13.1 when he downloads it off the app store, negating the <10.12.6 issue entirely...

Not true, I've posted the direct link (post #5) to Sierra in the MAS. It's still available to anyone with a Mac or CustoMac and an Apple ID. There is still much audio software that is not HS ready. He may have to stay with Sierra for some time.

thats a very good point id overlooked, a friend of mine is delaying updating because serato didnt/doesnt work well with HS
