Hi all,

I'm new here and I've never build a Hacintosh before o_O.

The Buyer's guide is very good, but for many reasons I would like to build a Xeon CPU based Sierra system.

Can anyone tell me whether the Intel® Xeon® Processor E5-2620 v4 will work and if there any specific issues I need to take into account?

Also in terms of Mobo I would welcome your recommendations.

Thanks in advance,
Diede

The Xeon E5-2620 v4 will require a X99 motherboard (or a server motherboard of the same generation). Can you still get your hands on one?

I've looked around and could indeed find a X99 motherboard, the ASRock X99M.
I also found a good deal on an Intel® Xeon® Processor E5-2640 v4 processor.

So do you think this combination can work?

Xeon E5-2640 v4? Also require a X99 motherboard, even better.

The X99 platform has no native support in MacOS Sierra, but people seem able to get it to work. For example :

https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/...ill-tridentz-aorus-gtx-1080-ti-xtreme.211621/
https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/...itan-10-11-2-clover-guide-100-working.183441/ (This is for El Capitan.)

So with a good motherboard and a supported graphics card I think the combination can work.

Thank you for the links!

So based on the experience of others with the X99 mobo I went ahead and purchased the ASRock X99M mobo and Xeon E5-2640 v4 CPU.

My iMac is on High sierra, and I've read that there is no way of downloading Sierra anymore. I also couldn’t find it in the store.

As I also have a Snow Leopard DVD, I've tried to install it, but couldn't make it work.

I made blank CD with the legacy version of iBoot, but it won't start.

Any recommendations would be welcome.

Thanks,

Apparently there is still a way to download MacOS Sierra from the Mac App Store. Check this link :
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/macos-sierra/id1127487414?mt=12

And you can't use iBoot anymore. You have to use Unibeast to create a MacOS installation USB stick for use in your system. Get yourself a USB stick (preferably 2.0) with 8GB or higher capacity and use the Unibeast version corresponding to the MacOS version you want to install to create it on your iMac.

I suggest updating your motherboard BIOS to the latest available version before you start.

If you want to install MacOS Sierra, check the Sierra installation guide under Guides at the top of this page. After creating the USB stick you will have to modify it with the information from the previous links in order to make the stick bootable on your system.

Warning : Do NOT attempt to boot your iMac with the Unibeast USB stick or it may render your iMac unbootable.

Hi,

Thank you for the link to Sierra!

I took me a while, but in the end I could make it work using this guide: https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/...ill-tridentz-aorus-gtx-1080-ti-xtreme.211621/

Everything seems to work.

Thanks a lot for your support!
Kind regards,

Can you please sharing your EFI if you still keep it? I am having the same CPU as you and my mainboard is ASUS X99-M WS but I keep getting thread crash while booting to the installer.

I tried that guide and the guide from KGP for High Sierra. While I am able to install for High Sierra, it is extremely laggy (even when I try to type something with my keyboard).

Thanks! Any help is greatly appreciated!
