Hello.
I did my hackingtosh in 2014 with yosemite and i didn't want to change, but the latest release of Adobe After Effects requires 10.11 at least, so i'm forced to change.

I installed my system with chimera; is it possible to directly update it to High Sierra? (is it also recommended?)

I urgently need to use the new after effects and i'd love to use high sierra, but i find the current guide a bit confusing.
Is there still a way to install Sierra, just in case?

Also, i only have El Capitan available to install, because i never added sierra to my cart; is there a way to get it?

Thanks.

Hi there. Good questions. I'm sure a proper expert will be along soon enough to help, but in the mean time ...

As far as I can tell High Sierra is not as smooth an install as Sierra was. There are a lot of problems being reported on the forums here. Personally I'm holding off on the upgrade until (if?) the new MultiBeast and UniBeast versions are released. The fact they aren't here yet indicates the work needed to get them running smoothly has not been easy.

As for Chimera. You need Clover to go forward now. When you are ready to get started it is probably a good idea to upgrade to El Capitan and Clover using the relevant UniBeast 6.2.0 and MultiBeast 8.2.3. That way you've made the change to Clover which you definitely need (and it will need updating for High Sierra), and you might see another upgrade option offered in the Mac App Store. Hopefully Sierra. Make sure you choose a system Definition like iMac14,2. When I was back on Chimera I ran MacPro3,1 BUT that model is no longer supported by Apple.

Good luck
:)

@Jippa_Lippa Interested to know how you've got along with this. I am in a similar situation. Did you find some useful guides? I'll let you know if I do myself. Just getting started on this lengthly mission.

Apparently there is still a way to download MacOS Sierra 10.12.6 from the Mac App Store :
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/macos-sierra/id1127487414?mt=12

Given a choice between High Sierra and Sierra now I would stay with Sierra. Won't consider High Sierra until at least 10.13.4.

In my honest opinion High Sierra has been just as good as sierra it has been a bit more of a struggle for me it was Nvidia Web Drivers but everything else went really smoothly i just used UniBeast and the only real hard part was installing the bootloader but my motherboard is very weird so i have to use the USB so everything is working i updated recently and my app store inst working for some reason just saying if your a huge app store fan i wouldn't recommend it but honestly who uses the mac app store
