Greetings!

I am encountering a perpetual reboot before I can even begin to install High Sierra.

I updated Lily, Shiki, IntelGraphicsFixUp, and NvidiaGraphicsFixup. I also copied over apfs.efi as per guide. Additionally, I am running the latest version of Clover -r4243.

I cannot access any of the drives from Clover. No USB keys either. I get the prohibited sign.

I can boot into safe mode, but cannot access the EFI partition.

I cannot seem to locate an appropriate fix via search.

Attached is the screenshot of the error.

Thanks for any help!

Jon

  • From the description of your problem, this boot failure of the High Sierra USB installer seems to be Graphics Related.
  • The Verbose boot screen image also supports that it is most likely from Graphics as the booting has advanced closer to the destination screen, i.e. the Installation Screen> Utilities>Disk Utility.
  • The uploaded screen seems to show you have a Windows System disk also.[See edited portion of the screen]
    • Do you have a Windows disk? Is it a Separate disk or Windows is sharing the same disk targeted for MacOS but on a separate partition?
  • What Graphic Card are you using to connect the monitor at this present boot?
    • What is the monitor(Make and Model) and to what Port you are connecting and with what type of cable?
  • Can you upload your CLOVER folder from that USB Installer as a compressed file?
The "Prohibited sign" screen you mentioned usually occurs from a failure of file transfer from the USB installer usually from a 'bad " USB port , often USB 3 or one in the Front of the Computer case, or very unusually from a bad USB Flash disk.

The current screen does not show that. Did you change the USB port before this screen shot you have uploaded?

Thanks for the reply. :)

I have tried with flag nv_disable=1 and unchecked the NVidiaWebDrivers option - no joy there.

I do have a Windows disk, but that is distinct from the Macintosh HD.

I am currently connecting the monitor (Asus 28" MG28UQ) via DP on the 1070.

I *could* remove the SSD from the system and connect it to another computer to interact with the disk if necessary (though a small pain).

I am not using a USB installer. I was attempting to get into a recovery mode of some sort by accessing a USB installer for Sierra.

OK , I got it now.. This problem happened while rebooting the system following an 'attempted Direct Upgrade' of existing "macOS Sierra" [which already has a current Clover EFI Bootloader:r4243] to macOS High Sierra! All the graphics related "kext-fixers" listed in your post are also in the original macOS Sierra prior to your launch of the High Sierra Installer file.

As a troubleshoot for the current predicament, you had already tried to boot the Recovery HD of the prior system and apparently that too had a problem to reach the Installation screen. As another tool you have tried a Sierra USB installer to boot and the Screen image is of that boot failure from Sierra USB Installer!

This is indeed a tough spot.

I am still thinking there could be a mismatch of your actual Graphics connection and what has really happened to the CLOVER folder of your system disk AFTER you updated its CLOVER to r4243. If you had not done an EFI mounting of that Disk and verified the contents of CLOVER and its Folders and the config.plist, I wonder if the upgrade has overwritten some of the files there.

I suggest you to take a look at the sub folders of "Options" in "Clover Boot Manager" Screen by rebooting without the Sierra USB FD and see if you can edit any options to see if booting will occur.

The Clover update did not adversely affect my system as I had done that several days prior.

I have corrected the problem.

I was able to, finally, boot to one of the installer USB keys and used Terminal to delete the NVidiaWebLibVal.kext from both Clover and the L/E folders. That kext was rolled into the NVidiaGraphicsFixup kext and I had forgotten that.

System then booted into the HS installer without trouble.

Also, I was able to execute the installer from Safe Mode without getting a “try running the installer again” message.

So, the installer is running now...

Yay!
