How to extend the iMac Pro to X99 [Successful Build/Extended Guide]

I'm having an issue I'm hoping someone can help out with;

I'm following the guide almost exactly (See below re formatting as APFS);

Haswell-E X99 system. 1080Ti GPU. Asus X99 Pro / USB 3.1 Mobo. Has been running Sierra fine.

I've created a USB 3.0 drive that boots into the installer fine. I have formatted my system partition as APFS and installed a clean copy of Clover, along with my working EFI folder to it.

I go through the 2 initial reboots, and High Sierra seemingly installs fine onto my system drive. However, the third reboot - whereby you should boot off your system drive for the first time hangs at the +++++++.

I haven't been able to get past this step. Anyone encountered and resolved this?

Thanks!

UPDATE:

I've now tried this using an HFS+ formatted drive with the same result. I can install, but it always fails with the final step.

Can anyone help out with this?

I've since tried booting the recovery partition from my main system drive too - which started to boot much farther - but ended on a couple of lines that might be interesting;

Code:
considerRebuildOfPrelinkedKernel com.apple.driver.AppleIntelMCEReporter triggered rebuild
kextd stall[0], (240s): 'AppleACPICPU'.

In any case - i'm stuck. Should I go and buy a 3.1 drive even though I get the install mostly complete? Is something else causing the issue?

Hey, I'm trying to have my nvme drive show as internal. When trying to save the aml file I get the following:

I believe this is because of the '-' and ',' symbols in my situation.

I used my old ATI HD6870 to boot and clean install 10.13, installed Nvidia Webdrivers, Ran AGDPfix.app, installed Lilu and NividiaGraphicsFixup in Clover other folder, used KextBeast to install NVWebDriverLibValFix.kext to L/E, Ran Kext Utility to fix permissions. Rebooted and verified working with GTX 1050. Then ran High Sierra Supplemental Update, rebooted to osInstall and let it finish. Pulled out GTX 1050 and again booted with ATI HD6870. Upon reboot Nvidia prompted to update web drivers, ran the update and ran Kext Utility before reboot. Swapped video cards, fired it up, and boom, good to go!

Edit: I can only boot with 1 monitor plugged in, otherwise black screen. Once it's booted I can plug in the second monitor, but it says 24 bit color, don't know if that's a issue... I'll be looking into this if you have any suggestions? View attachment 283810
Did you anyway worked with SIPs? 0x0 / 0x30 etc?

So, I've figured out my problem and managed to progress a little further;

For the EFI setup on my SYSTEM PARTITION - I had to re-enabled KernelPm and the xpcm_idle patch. Once I did this - the system partition booted to complete the install process. I'm not sure why this is, but @kgp this might be worth mentioning. Maybe I missed it in the guide?

I'm not sure what consequences this will have for me going through the rest of the post install process, but we'll see.

@mikjess : I had the same problem until I switched to the USB 3.1 port on my MB for the install.

Thank you for the reply but I am using the USB 3.1 port, with a USB 3.1 drive (paid $$$ for this just for this guide...)

Could it be the video card? My mobo doesn't have built in video.

After installing this supplemental update I've started to get random instant wake from sleep and few reboots randomly on boot, machine was stable as rock before the update, didn't change anything except the apfs driver in efi and new webdrivers :(

I do mention in my guide that in case of problems when booting one should check KernelPM! That now you need also the xpcm_idle patch seems an particular exception I cannot account for... In any case, it has absolutely no consequences for
going through the rest of the post install process...

I would skip at least one $ symbol when speaking about the costs of a USB 3.1 Flash Drive, which you can purchase for 10-30$!!!!!!!! :mad::mad::mad::mad::thumbdown

Do you know what are the costs and temporal efforts for guide development at my side, in order to provide and support you and others with all my know-how during nearly 24/7/364 ? :mad::mad::mad: :thumbdown

$$$$$ :!::!::!::!:

Don't make me responsible for your inability to follow my instructions .... If you want to have 100% compatibility with my guide, change your components!

Thanks, KGP

I never made you responsible, ever.

You read way too far into my post. Waaayyy too far (let your mind stop at one $ if that makes you mad - that seems to be where you went off the rails). I'm eternally grateful for your help, and everyone else's help for this thread, and for the history of computing who's helped someone else.

I started programming on a commodore Vic-20 in 1982 (I was 8). I have 20+ years in computing from BBS's to the internet. I've seen thousands of guides. For part of my career I taught college, part time, and made nothing (compared to full time development); I only made 10-30% of what I do now. But I never mention that, I just tell people how much I enjoyed teaching and at this point in my life plan to retire into it).

Just please don't read "too deep" into my post - take a nap, relax. Enjoy your thread! Enjoy your community! Enjoy what you're doing (and don't get too wrapped up in it)!

And again thank you for your time with this guide.

(ps. trying a new video card atm for those who care).
