[HALF-SUCCESS] iTunes 12.7 constantly crashing (random messages)

You got the right impression. I think I mentioned earlier in this thread that i could keep itunes running for hours if i let it play music. It definetely crashed when i tried to play a bought video. however, it did also crash when just going through the menus/settings or syncing my iphone. When i let music play in the background, i was able to sync my iphone.

Pretty sure it has something to dobwith drm and/or the underlying decoder framework.
Bummer. I am having a different issue here. When ever I open iTunes, it crashes within 10-15 seconds opening. There's this cycle in which iTunes crashes 3-4 times, and then it works fine the next time. And then it crashes again. My crashes were also sometimes triggered by closing the app window and opening the app window again. This behavior is specific only to iTunes yet. No other app has gone rouge on me like this...

Don't put too much value/trust into my describing of the crashes. I did have erroneous behaviour and crashes of the likes you described there too.

So, I am pretty confident it's the same issue.

Did you try playing some music? Did it crash as well then?

@elmacci That's the problem. Sometimes it crashes when I select a track. Then there are times that it works flawlessly for hours. Then sometimes it crashes when I selext the track and close the window. There's no telling if it'll work or not. I feel I must put it out there that I haven't tried buying a movie from iTunes. Reinstalled HS to solve the missing artwork problem, and fortunately, that problem has been taken care of.

@elmacci Maybe the next update to HS/iTunes will take care of this.

@elmacci Just played a movie trailer on iTunes. Video playback doesn't seem to the problem for me. Maybe we are chasing different beasts here...?

High guys, i updated my hack to latest high sierra version( take extra care when you decide to install the latest update). iTunes is now working again (running 2 hours continuously till now)

Imac 17.1. No external gpu. Only intel hd530
shiki, lilu, intelgraphicsfixup. VDADecoder shows that hardware acceleration is fully supported.
if the random crashes start again i will update my post.

false hopes guys... it started again.

trailers were never an issue - these worked for me also. should have mentioned that - thought it was clear due to always talking about bought itunes movies. ;-)

Just installed High Sierra fresh on an external hard drive for testing purposes, using the newest build 17A405.

With Shikigva=1, i managed to get bought itunes movies to play (after downloading them - but streaming never worked in the first place). Obviously Quicksync is disabled.

When i enable Quicksync by booting without shikigva=1 i get the same itunes crashing.

conclusion: for hd530 and nvidia with quicksync, the supplemental update does not fix the issue.

I've done the following test: Close session on iTunes (also removed authorization). Never crash anymore, but obviously: no apple music or streaming for bought content (trailers and free content works fine) LOL.

[UPDATE]
Just a minute after this post, iTunes crashed... hahahaha

Do you mean the supplemental update?
