Hello,

I've upgrade to high sierra from El Capitan and have since lost audio. It worked correctly prior to this and since having upgraded I've struggled to get it back. I appreciate that the OS x is new but would like some guidance or reassurance on what to do. I also struggled to get my head around the original post as it appears somewhat out of date with the issues I've been currently having.

As a result of this, I therefore don't know what screenshots need attaching and thought it was best to explain what I could gather from the issue and then going from there. Since having upgraded I've not had any audio, no output or input devices found in 'System Preferences' 'Sound'.

I did find a post that Toleda had made outlining how to get ALC**** to enable audio on High Sierra but despite this installing correctly (i think), there's still no sound.

SuperMicro X8DAH

The strange thing about this board is that according to Clover the HD audio controller is a 3a3e (alc1200/888) according to windows device manager the audio controller is an 888--(whilst using the 886 codec) -according to Linux codec dump -- also an 886. I have gotten as far as seeing devices in system preferences that even change between headphones and speaker if I insert the jack -- but still no sound. No sound assertion errors but no sound nonetheless -- VoodooHDA worked but that is such a band-aid solution. (Note: this is all in 10.6.8)
Even the newest Clover ALC patches do not work with this motherboard (10.10 +)--- probably speaking to no one but maybe there is hope out there........

Not working.
Remove, new download, reinstall.
I dragged the two kexts from my system/library/extension folder to the trash and just did the reinstall of fakepciid.kext and fakepciid_hdmi_audio.kext, but still no sound? Should I uninstall everything and start over? or should I install Sierra over top of current version? or do you have any other ideas?
