[Solved] Asus P8Z77 High Sierra - everything works except ethernet

Hey guys! First post here even though I've been creeping around for a while learning and experimenting. I just got High Sierra working and I'm absolutely over the moon. I do have one problem, which is why I'm posting here: my ethernet isn't working. I'm attaching and image to show you what I mean.

I have tried everything I can possibly find - has anyone seen this?

Board: Asus P8Z77-V
Processor: i7 3770K

Not sure what other information anyone needs. Everything is working except internet! And once that's working I'm sure iMessage and such will be easy enough to fix - I've fixed them on previous OS when I've had issues.

I apologize in advance if I'm posting in the wrong spot - any help is greatly appreciated!

I'm wondering if I'm looking in the wrong spot - I don't have any PCI ethernet cards, I'm an idiot. It's my on-board ethernet that isn't working!

Still no luck, I've tried multibeast and kextbeast for pushing just about every different kext I can think of - and I've purged the extension folders before I did it each time. Still no luck, no internet

Check first if LAN is enabled in your BIOS.

Try this manual installation procedure :

Remove any previous failed attempts from /Library/Extensions and /System/Library/Extensions.

Open Finder and browse to /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/ then delete these two files :

• NetworkInterfaces.plist
• preferences.plist

Download the kext and put it on your desktop.
Download and run KextBeast selecting /Library/Extensions as the location.

In Terminal :

sudo kextcache -i /

Press return, type your password (it will not show on screen), press return again and when the command has completed restart.

So unfortunately I've tried that - I did it for each kext I tried, no luck. When you say LAN in bios, what specifically should I be looking for? Everything that made sense to me is correct. I'm fairly experienced with all this, building rigs and such. This is my main gaming rig too - but I have Mac sequestered on it's own HDD.

Same here on my Z68 legacy rig after the upgrade. I also seem to get some hanging on the wifi (native Airport module) that wasn't there previously, although it seems to correct after I turn wifi off and back on again. Ethernet, however, is not playing along. Plugged my older MacBook Pro into the ethernet because I was worried my router was going flaky, but the MBP connected fine using the same cable. I actually do get momentary internet via ethernet when the system first boots up. For example, if I have Safari windows being restored from the last boot, they will reload via ethernet and then about 10 seconds in, no more internet via ethernet.

Tried the steps noted above and even switched from the Apple Realtek driver to the latest tweaked one in Multibeast. Hoping that perhaps something in the new High Sierra Multibeast will help. :-S

I am still struggling with this; hoping someone can help out here! I have tried everything listed here and more. I have tried all of the various internet kexts as well and deleted everything in the extensions folders in between each installation attempt. I am completely out of ideas and can't use any older version of Mac because I don't have the installer downloaded! I have two MacBooks in the house and both have Sierra or High Sierra on them, dang!

Please help!

We seem to be in slightly different boats. At least on my end the kext is properly loading and the device is recognized in the system, although for all intents and purposes, the ethernet is a dud. This is what I'm seeing for Networking and System Report.

For anyone reading, wifi is still hit and miss. Basically, it seems as though something is mucking up my network functioning. At times where Airport is locked up I will connect to wifi with my iPhone and it loads without issue. e.g., It seems to be something with the High Sierra upgrade.

hpibrahim, can you see any prior OS releases under "Purchased" in the app store? For whatever reason, I don't see an entry for Sierra on my end, although all prior downloads up through El Capitan are visible and I can re-download them if needed.

Unfortunately nothing shows up for me - no older versions of MacOS and nothing in network settings!

Wow got it working! It was the Realtek kext that finally worked even though I had tried it about 200 times previously. Eventually it worked! I did run the disk utility repair I wonder if that did it?
