LG UltraFine 5K Build

I think it's fine, since you got the display to work with each DisplayPort output of the RX580 through the GC-ALPINE RIDGE card.

Did you test both DisplayPort inputs and both Thunderbolt 3 outputs of the GC-ALPINE RIDGE? If you use the top DisplayPort input, then you might need to use the top Thunderbolt 3 output. If you use the bottom DisplayPort input, then you might need to use the bottom Thunderbolt 3 output.

Are you able to change the brightness and use the speakers, camera, and USB ports of the display? If not, then you may need to restart the computer while the display is connected for those features to be useable. Those feature require PCIe communication over Thunderbolt to work. You should be able to see those feature in IORegistryExplorer.app. There is an example ioreg output file at #51 called kThunderBolt.ioreg which shows the brightness control, audio, camera, and usb ports connected to a Fresco Logic FL1100 USB 3.0 controller under the Thunderbolt 3 controller.

Yes, I also think thunderbolt's work is normal. I have audio for display, brightness adjustment, microphone

I finally get working LG5K Display.
Configuration with GC-ALPINE, 2 DP ports and RADEON RX580 4GB.

Operating System: macOS Sierra 10.12.6, no IGPU
Motherboard: GA-270X-UD5
Graphics Card: Sapphire Nitro+ Radeon Rx580 4gb

1] install Lilu and whatevergreen.kext. Reboot
2] in clover section under Graphics set as fb Dayman and put video ports (Have 5 ports:2dp,2hdmi and 1 dvi but I set 4 (so appears one monitor instead of two, but not 5k full.). Reboot
3] create custom resolution in SwitchrRes to 5120x2880. Apply experimental and voila: system active

I don't know why my RX580 is recognized as 480 after launch Whatevername.app

This is great, I grabbed an RX580, but I am getting a black screen on boot I have both of those kexts (Lilu & WhateverGreen) in there, any feedback on why that might be? I did switch from an NVIDIA card so maybe that caused the issue?

Okay so I ditched all my NVDA* files in /S/L/E and now I can boot in just fine, but I am getting this in the System Report:

I am running:

Any tips on how to move from here? The card is an RX 580, thanks!

It seems like only 5K 40HZ? It should be 60HZ, that's normal

Agreed. 5K 40 Hz is only using one DisplayPort stream. It should be 5K 60 Hz which requires two DisplayPort streams.

I am a bit unsure of how I accomplished this, but I now have an RX 580 running off of one GC-Alpine Ridge card on my Z170X-Ultra Gaming doing what appears to be full 5k pixel doubled on my LG 5k monitor. Here are some screen shots:

Thank you very much, my friend. Thank you for your patient help and many useful suggestions. I think I got the 5K 60hz.
Finally, thank you very much.....

I think I got the 5K 60hz.

For confirmation, you're both missing the most important screenshot - the timing information when you double click the current resolution in SwitchResX.

Ha ha, I think so. I forgot. Screenshot
