An iDiot's Guide To iMessage

The everymac site appears to be back to normal now.

Yes agreed, appears to be working now.

What does it mean if iMessageDebug produces a null value in the BoardSerialNumber field, even though it is set in the SMBIOS and can be seen in the Clover Configurator, and the everymac site confirms that you have a valid S/N ?

It may be that your motherboard lacks native NVRAM support and you should emulate it - See the guide for details.

I keep getting error 31 in console and the pop up to contact apple.
I contacted them and no matter how many times they did the thing with the code it wouldn't work. Eventually they led me to clear nvram (I used terminal instead of the power keys they wanted me to) and I did and it still wouldn't work. ICloud worked, and it was syncing with iCloud, but imessages and facetime wouldn't

I tried clearing caches and such

I tried different serial numbers and MLB

I made sure my serial was valid and set Rom to Usemacadd0

I'm using clover vibrant configurater , if I add the trust variable mds_stores throttles my I/O and cpu
Besides the point as it doesn't work either

Made sure my serials were sticking with reboots and imessages debug Stuck.

Halp

I tried with another rom value, putting values in RT, I made sure clear everything every time I changed values (nvram, Keychain, Library folder and reboot)
When I created this guide all that I really did was document the process that I always use to set up my Hacks.
It works for me (and many others too), if it doesn't work for you I cannot help you any further because your problem is outside the bounds of my experience.

No offence meant :)

It just means that it IS a simple guide.
MacPro trash can definitions are a no go... they use Xeon CPU's with an extra layer of security. I been trying to use that model forever and get no success. Perhaps you should mention that in the guide

This guide just reflects my own experience configuring my builds, I have never used a "MacPro trash can definition" so cannot comment on it.

I do run a build with a Xeon processor and a MacPro5,1 system definition and that works ok.

Yeah well I meant if you have a Intel Core processor, it will likely fail without the VPS security from Xeons. According to JayMonkey, he said "trash can Mac Pros" (6,1) SMBIOS have VPS on them. That's why I mentioned that

MacPro5,1 is not a "TrashCan" :

That distinction belongs to the MacPro6,1 alone :

Thanks for your suggestion but without further evidence I will not be changing my guide.

Does anyone know if CC information is needed or other requisites apply on account-wise side?

It has been said that you must have a credit card registered with your AppleID in order to use iMessage,
I can neither confirm or deny this as I have never tried it without.
Edit : Replies to this guide have confirmed that a registered credit card is not required.

This is intended as a quick and easy guide to enable the average user to configure for iMessage services.
It is acknowledged that it will not work in all cases but should assist a great many people if only by giving an understanding of the processes involved to enable iMessage.

Hello,

Thank you for the very helpful guide. I have been tinkering and mucking about with no luck. I found this guide and followed it and along the way I have FaceTime and Messages working again. I had to update the Rt Variables and MSBIOS settings and found almost akin to magic I have FaceTime and Messages working. YEAH! Thanks again.
