Mouse preference pane quits unexpectedly

Hi,

I'm using Sierra 10.12.6.
The issue is not directly into Mouse.prefPane but into the assets that it does uses.

The video that does explain gesture is the problem (i'm using NVIDIA Web Driver), you can access back to the Magic Mouse preferences panel if you rename MagicMouse.mov into /System/Library/Assets/com_apple_MobileAsset_prefpanes_TrackpadMouseVideos/8d8c589221217f59c640073a8a348ef41934be08.asset/AssetData/ folder.

So, this command do the trick :

Code:
sudo mv /System/Library/Assets/com_apple_MobileAsset_prefpanes_TrackpadMouseVideos/8d8c589221217f59c640073a8a348ef41934be08.asset/AssetData/MagicMouse.mov /System/Library/Assets/com_apple_MobileAsset_prefpanes_TrackpadMouseVideos/8d8c589221217f59c640073a8a348ef41934be08.asset/AssetData/MagicMouse-fix.mov

Regards,

Thanks,
had the same issue, upgraded to Sierra and then when opening mouse preferences I got a crash.
Renamed the mov file by using the Finder and now I do not see the mouse movie but the preferences does not crash anymore.
The question why the movie crashes, probably other movies will crash as well, so I'm sure this is the best solution.

Hey Vincent13, any chance you could write a command for the trackpad pref, would be much appreciated.

Justed edited Vincent13's command now knowing where to look for the trackpad video:

Code:
sudo mv /System/Library/Assets/com_apple_MobileAsset_prefpanes_TrackpadMouseVideos/4c802a19960a54d112696e210da8c59e84e9f243.asset/AssetData/MagicTrackpad2.mov /System/Library/Assets/com_apple_MobileAsset_prefpanes_TrackpadMouseVideos/4c802a19960a54d112696e210da8c59e84e9f243.asset/AssetData/MagicTrackpad2-fix.mov

Not sure if the "4c802a19960a54d112696e210da8c59e84e9f243" path will be the same across all devices but that's what it was for me. And yes, it totally fixed my trackpad settings from crashing :)

EDIT: Just to clarify, I have a Magic Trackpad 2

Thanks to Vincent13's heads up on this fix. The tutorial video flashes briefly when I open the TrackPad preference pane and vanishes to give me TrackPad settings once more, fantastic, never liked those dumb movies anyway :)

In my case I don't have a Magic mouse and my track pad is a TackPad (original not TrackPad2). The 'MagicTrackPad.mov' was in a differently name folder '324276f02485df0e7a62dafb27adb6c077dbe20e.asset' this may be different for other systems, so you need to check what the folder is named on your system.
And the movies listed will be different depending what hardware you have installed, mice or pads and which model.
Go to
Code:
/System/Library/Assets/com_apple_MobileAsset_prefpanes_TrackpadMouseVideos
and check the folder name, edit code as required.

Code I used
Code:
sudo mv /System/Library/Assets/com_apple_MobileAsset_prefpanes_TrackpadMouseVideos/324276f02485df0e7a62dafb27adb6c077dbe20e.asset/AssetData/MagicTrackpad.mov /System/Library/Assets/com_apple_MobileAsset_prefpanes_TrackpadMouseVideos/324276f02485df0e7a62dafb27adb6c077dbe20e.asset/AssetData/MagicTrackpad-fix.mov

Regards,

I found another solution thanks to yours, you may replace the XML file + the *.mov file by the highSierra Version. -> you've got Mouse settings working + the demo video

Regards,

This works ! Thank you !

With that fix I was able to open the prefs again:https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3914181

in the finder, select go ▹ go to folder... from the menu bar, copy the text on the line below into the box that opens, and press return:

~/library/caches/com.apple.systempreferences

try system preferences again.
