Hi even though it says 2560 x 1440 this is actually retina mode. The screenshot from my MacBook Pro 2016 model says the same thing:

however my system is x99 based and alpine ridge card is not working properly, so I'm considering an z170 system instead.

With the Designare, I'm able to boot with the Ultrafine 4K but not entirely with the Ultrafine 5K : it crashed during macOS loading. Any idea?

With Apple Thunderbolt Display, it works fine but USB ports are not working. Again, any ideas welcome :)

Ok I found the issue for the Apple Thunderbolt : I had to disable the Thunderbolt Boot option in the BIOS. But still not able to finish the macOS loading on the 5k... :/

Does anybody know if its possible to attach two 5K LG Display to a Hackintosh (in 4k it should work with the Alpine Ridge Card, but what about 5K)?
What Hardware would be needed?

I guess you would need two alpine ridge cards, if this is possible?

As far as I know, there are only motherboards with one Thunderbolt header.

Do 5K displays also work (hardware accelerated) on Thunderbolt ports on a Motherboard? I ask, because I know that there are several motherboards with more than one Thunderbolt ports. But are these TBP able to pass through two display port 1.2 signals?

=> I really would like to read up on that, If anybody knows how to find such information. :)

You need to be able to take two Displayport inputs in order to "funnel" two DP 1.2 signals into a single TB 3 Port, that's why the Gigabyte Alpine ridge card is interesting as it has two DP inputs. The TB header cable that comes with the Alpine Ridge card, has a "daisy chain" input/connector, so physically one can in fact connect two Alpine Ridge cards, but if it works or your need at higher class motherboard...I don't know.

Daisy chain two Alpine Ridge cards.. seems to be an interesting solution!
(I would obviously also need a second GTX 1080, with two more display port outputs)
I still have to read up on whether SLI does work in MacOS.

If SLI does work in macOS and if I can get my hands on two Alpine Ridge cards, i will definitely try that!
