What was your primary reason for building a hackintosh?

I went Hackintosh because I wanted a powerful mac that I could expand and modify at a more affordable price.

Exactly the same. A really powerful mac, that I could expand and modify as I need, at a more affordable price.

I would like to know what your PRIMARY reason was to build a hackintosh.

I had pretty current gen Macs at the time I built my first Hackintosh. I had a MacBook Pro 2011 13", my family had some white MacBooks, and we had a 2007 20" Aluminum iMac. However, I wanted to get into PC building. I built my first PC and tried to Hackintosh it, but I had obscenely long boot times for an SSD (7 minutes) so I abandoned the project. A few months later, I stumbled across a site that said to check off one check box for mixed Sandy-Ivy Bridge systems in MultiBeast (I had a Z68 motherboard with an Ivy CPU), and after that the Hackintosh worked like a dream. After using Windows during that period where I did not have a Mac I realized that for the work I was doing Windows was much better, so Windows is still my primary OS, but my build has had macOS on it ever since.

My primary reason for building a Hackintosh is that Apple wants $4300 for yesterday's string bikini that can have lots of strings attached... And I can't justify spending $4300 for that...

I was working at the time as an after sales technician and had no experience with Mac OS. So I took my laptop, an iboot cd, get a snow leopard installation disk at the store and started to learn Mac OS. Since then every single computer I own have its try with the current flavor of OS X.

I built my first to replace a no longer upgradeable 2006 Mac Pro. I built my last as an upgrade of the first. It replaced a Mid-2011 iMac having display issues. I finally replaced the hackintosh with a 5K 27" 2015 iMac. Because this machine meets or exceeds the performance of the hackintosh the latter has been filled to my floor where it sits alongside the seven other Hackintoshes I don't know what to do with. Any suggestions?

I have a new motherboard and CPU to upgrade the last hackintosh, but due to age, my hands shake too much now. So everything sits on the floor.

You can install Windows 7 or 10 on the machines you are not using anymore and sell them locally. You could donate them to schools or school kids that are too poor to afford a Windows PC. If you don't want to bother with Windows there are many Linux distros you can easily install. You can find someone who could benefit. If not take them for recycling at any major electronics retailer.

I built mine for three reasons:
1. Apple wasn't making the model I wanted. I wanted something smaller, like a Mini, but with a DVD/BluRay burner because I still use discs. Someone either sends me a disc, or I make discs for others. Hey, my 93 year old mother in law knows how to use a DVD player. Plus I like redundant drives. I want options.
2. Apple hardware is expensive, and not upgradeable. So I can build my machine as I need or want to. I can use the DVD burner I already have and install the BluRay later on. If 16G of ram isn't enough now, I can add more later. Turn it into a server later on with a bigger case and four more drives. No problem.
3. I like to tinker and learn. It's satisfying to me to be able to build and troubleshoot my machine. At the tender age of 65 it's nice to know the brain still functions, can learn new things and adapt. Wait til you're there...

I am more like Windows user even if I owned Macs before (Mac mini 2010, iMac 2012), but my primary reason of building a Hackintosh now is because I like very much to do experiments, I do this for fun since I was young and on anything.

Don't get me wrong because I like OS X, but Apple prices and provided Hardware for me are one big fail (I would not pay even if I can afford). But I would stick to Hackintosh only as long as its available.

I would have been happy with the Mac Mini, even with its limitation to dual-core CPUs, but the inability to run any better GPU than a GeForce 320M was a deal-breaker for me, and I didn't want to have my computer built into a display (iMac) and a Mac Pro would have been ridiculous overkill.
