AppleHDA Surround Sound [Guide]

is there anyone out there who already managed to do 5.1 optical spdif on a customac?
Yes, I am anyone. The answer to every question you asked is available in Post #1. Your native Mac experience/screenshot is useless. Audio MIDI Setup supports analog audio devices only; SPDIF alway shows 2 channels with DD 5.1 and DTS 5.1. See Post #1:

Recommendations

2. Optical 5.1
1. Players (select one)
Installation
2. Optical audio
2. Select System Preferences/Sound/Output/Built-in Digital

i already tried plex, kodi, vlc, mplayerx... none of these worked in optical 5.1
sound pref panel is already on digital out - optical digital out port.
my native mac experience is very useful as i remember doing this on my mac mini and being able to make vlc read in dts.
audio midi setup supports build in digital out, as you can see on my screenshot.
spdif did show multichannel on my mac mini and i'm trying to get this function back.
my question remains unanswered.

Answered; user error.
Plex, Kodi and mPlayerX/DD 5.1, DTS 5.1 work on anyone machines.
VLC will never do 5.1 optical on non native hardware, keep trying.

Hello Toleda,

Now you helped me wit fixing my sound (ALC888B), I had only one small problem.
After configuring 5.1 surround, which is working perfectly, there is only one strange thing.
I cannot adjust the volume, it is grated-out.

How to solve that.

Thanks

cannot adjust the volume
Normal, no master volume with aggregate device
Simplest solution, adjust volume and balance with System Preferences/Sound/
1. Internal Speakers > Front speakers R/L
2. Line Out (1st) > Center/Subwoofer
3. Line Out (2nd) > Side speakers R/L

Thank you, did not know that:oops:

Hello

i've enabled SPDIF output which is working well now on gigabyte Z77 DS3R with ALC887

I'd like to output AC3 or DTS encoded through this.

I've understood that's not possible, looking at the first page?

Thanks for the answer

Hey everyone. I've been using this website as a trusted resource for all my Hackintosh needs since 2014. This is my first post. I finally got macos Sierra installed on my Hackintosh with working HDMI audio. Finally upgraded from Yosemite. Does anyone know if it's possible to use BOTH your HDMI audio and optical outputs at the same time for audio similar to how a PS4 can utilize both for audio? Let me know if it's possible and what I would need to do to get it done.
