Guys/gals, for my understanding - I currently have a working setup with a GA Z17X-UltraGaming. I would like to connect a few TB2 and TB1 devices (mainly RAIDs/disks) to it, the are self-powering and all have AC adapters.

What hardware do I need? Just the Apple TB3->TB2 dongle, just the GC AR card, or both? Do the Mini-DP ports on the Alpine Ridge card also function as TB1/TB2 ports or just as miniDP passthroughs (in/out)? It's a bit confusing...

As far as I know the mini dp is for graphics only, you need the GC card and the apple TB3-TB2 dongle. That's what I'm using.

That was my suspicion too, however online I'm reading that the USB-C port on the board is also combo-TB port. So in theory I should be able to just plug the 3->2 adapter into it and connect my RAID. Probably have to get the adapter anyway and test it from there.

i don't think so as i tried connecting a TB drive to the board USB-C port with the dongle and received a message saying thunderbolt devices were not compatible with that port. In addition, i'm pretty sure they would've marketed the crap out of that fact if it was true.

That is correct, and as a matter of fact they _do_ for my mobo (Ultra Gaming). For your mobo they don't as it seems that the enabled TB support was offered as BIOS/firmware update - see http://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GA-Z170MX-Gaming-5-rev-10#ov

aha, i was reading on my phone and your board model isn't displayed at that screen size. But yeah, you don't need the card, just the dongle

Gigabyte Taiwan and Gigabyte USA say that this card does not work with my Gigabyte Z170X Designaire board show make sure your board is compatible

Was anyone able to make this card appear under THUNDERBOLT in System Profiler?
Precisely: make the connected Devices to this card appear under Thunderbolt within System Profiler.

all my connected devices are working good, but none of them appear under THUNDERBOLT entry in SP.
I have connected a CalDigit hub to my Hackintosh, which gives me additional Ethernetport (wich is listed under ETHERNET within System Profiler), additional USB3 ports (which are listed under USB in System Profiler) and additional AHCI-Port (which is listed under SATA/SATA Express within System Profiler) - all over Thunderbolt2.

But Thunderbolt Entry in System Profiler still tells me: "Thunderbolt: No drivers are loaded." <--- anyone got a fix for this?

So, I can use it to work with my Apple thunderbolt Display + GA-Z170X-UD5 TH or Designare or others?

Apple TB3-TB2/TB1 adapter is enought for it?
