Hi,

I asked at the Buying Advice subforum before buying this SSD, and I was told it's TRIM-compatible (which is coherent with this disk being recommended at the Buyer's Guide). Now I'm on the post-install stage of my new Hackintosh, and the question arises... Searching at TonyMac I've seen people reporting corruption with this disk when TRIM is enabled, so I'm really not sure what to do.

If some of you use this disk model (mine is 500GB to be more exact) with TRIM enabled, please tell, because it would help me decide.

I have a 256 gb Samsung 850 EVO with TRIM enabled.

People don't post when TRIM is working fine, so of course you see reportings of disk corruption here.

I'll be surprised if anyone NOT running TRIM right now.

Ok, guys, I think I'll enable it. In case of problems, the sooner I get them, the easier the fix. But this drive (EVO 850) did/does have TRIM issues in Linux, enough for it being blacklisted for TRIM in the Linux kernel (not sure if it's still blacklisted or if they raised it). Maybe it's fine for OSX TRIM, I don't know.

I've enabled TRIM on it, then installed about 200GB (apps+files), and everything is working great. All apps work, no issues, so I guess TRIM works fine on the 850 EVO.

I'm running this SSD too. Can you guys report back it is indeed safe?

Been running a 850 EVO pro for years no issues.

sweet! thanks for you reply, enabled it, booted back normally. Showing 'trim enabled yes' for the 850 evo under about this mac, system report. Will post back if I find problems, but I don't believe I will.

My quick research turned up that the issues were mostly with linux bc it implements trim in a different way (non sequential?) the problem has either been already fixed and was actually a bug in the linux kernel or affected only linux raid volumes. Macrumors, us, and other forums about MacOS clearly tend towards trim enabling being safe and highly desirable.
