i7 4790 doesn't perform very good

Yes, I switched back to iMac13,2 and got improved scores and left it there.

Ive noticed on my Z77 desktop X86Platform is loaded. I guess PM has changed on Ivybridge back in Mavericks only AppleIntelCPUPowermanagement loads.

I might try my 6870 and see what the outcome is. I tried my 760 with iMac 15,1.

My cinebench above is 4790K with AMD 6870 gpu, using iMac 14,2

I don't know what chipset my HP Elite 8300 uses but I do know that X86Platform is loaded when using iMac13,2.

HP Elite 8300 uses Q77 Express Chipset. Which will be native.

What RAM are you using in this build? It isn't the same RAM from the Z77 build is it - because that would probably give poorer results than the actual RAM that was designed for Haswell.

The RAM I'm using in my Z77-DS3H is on the Memory CPU Support List for the Z97-HD3. I find that the 3770 encodes and renders video faster than the i7 4790 wether its in Windows or OS X. But the thing is Intel has limited the clock on each core for example the CPU will only run at 4Ghz on 2 cores which sucks what is the point in that? the 3770 runs at 3.9Ghz on all cores also in the BIOS on the Z97 board the CPU is Core 1 40, Core 2, 40, Core 3 38, Core 4 37 tbh the performance out of the Z97 is rubbish compared to the Z77 machine. Intel has limited core clock on the 4790.

I was always under the impression that is how Intel intended Turbo Boost to work, the cores will not be at max Turbo speed when all cores are being boosted. This is why an i7-6700K overclocked to 4.2GHz outperforms a stock i7-6700K which runs at 4GHz and Turbo Boosts up to 4.2GHz.

Also, the i7-3770 should only boost up to 3.9GHz. I don't know why it is able to boost up to 4GHz in the Z97. Maybe there's a bug in the BIOS?

Something is not right with the Z97 board and i7-4790 processor. The K version will easily go to 4.2 - 4.4 and even a non k processor should be putting distance between the Ivy Bridge and Haswell combo. Your Ivy Bridge setup sounds like it is running well though.
