980 ti working in Yosemite but not accelerated only 1 monitor

I wouldn't jump into Sierra with an X99 board. Try installing Yosemite as it should be easier. Apple do not support X99 so it is really difficult to get El Capitan and Sierra running.

Another great suggestion Adrian, thank you. That makes sense and I will try during downtime sometime soon and post back any results. My thoughts on trying sierra were thinking better support for this newer graphics card, but since this card has not been in a real mac, it doesn't make sense. Plus, I was hoping metal support might boost After Effects 2017... but all these theories are not based it facts, just guesses

One quick side note, I did run Ungine Valley under windows 8.1 and my results are posted in the screenshot below. Hopefully I can get half-way there on the Mac side

Big update:

I was able to test my 980ti inside a REAL Mac Pro 4,1. And the results were shocking….

The system is running 10.11.6 and I installed the latest Nvidia Web Drivers for the system. I ran power from my hackintosh since the mac pro does not have 8-pin power cables. Here are some screenshot from my results:



So a real mac pro runs the card even slower than my hackintosh! I think I can safely claim this is a driver issue and is not an issue with my hack, chameleon, clover, or even Mac OS version. I would love to hear from other 980ti users to see if they can get full acceleration in Mac OS. I guess I have to seriously consider moving completely to Adobe software on Windows (which is going to suck).

Please someone tell me I’m wrong, I don’t want to work in windows

My GTX 980 is getting get better scores on maxed out settings on my H87 board with an i5-4440 processor. I think that the issues lie elsewhere other than the drivers.

Most graphics benchmarks are (more or less) CPU bound in OS X, especially when pairing a fast GPU (GTX 980Ti) with a slow CPU (like the ancient Xeon in a cMP). The test results are perfectly normal.

The OS X performance will get very close to the Windows performance when installing the GPU in a system with a high clocked Haswell/Skylake/Kaby Lake CPU. Increasing the GPU load (e.g. by increasing the resolution) will also close the gap.
