How do install MacOS Sierra using the following desktop:

Status
Not open for further replies.
  1. You need to check your MoBO SPECS from Asus Site and find out what drivers (kexts in Mac term) are for LAN, Audio etc Multibeast has to install. [Example if ASUS says LAN (Ethernet ) is Intel xxxxx, then in Multibeast go to the Drivers>Network section>Intel and then choose . I have found "IntelMausiEthernet v2.2.0 " listed there better but you may choose the one that may say AppleIntel......" and if of not satisfied, later switch to IntelMausi....]
  2. Until you install successfully "Clover bootloader in UEFI mode from M Beast and and install the proper System Definitions (imac14.2 preferred) make required choices in config.plist the System disk installation is NOT complete. You need to keep booting through your USB installer which is well equipped with all Booting files to pass them on to System Disk from Clover Boot Manager screen and and standby the system disk to assist if needed until the Sierra System disk (HDD) safely reaches the Desktop.
  3. Multibeast, unfortunately, does not have the Nvidia Graphics Kext for your GFX card. I have given you the Link to get that. Read from Tonymac Graphics section of the Forum about the use of any Downloaded Webdriver . If you encounter issue explain it in detail here to get the help. Always supplement text with images for clarification.
  4. To edit the config.plist you need to get access to the CLOVER folder inside your Sierra System Disk
  5. CLOVER folder is inside its parent Folder named EFI
  6. EFI folder is in a special "Partition" inside the Sierra System Disk called "EFI partition" ( just like the file structure inside the Sierra USB Installer Disk)
  7. You cannot find the EFI partition from the System disk that was mounted when you ran MB to install Clover on the System Disk because you rebooted and made the EFI partition to get 'unmounted' (= cleared from the desktop)
  8. Therefore you need to 're-mount' the EFI Partition on the desktop and then using Mouse clicks navigate to its containing EFI Folder >CLOVER>config. plist file+ other important FOLDERs containing vital files for booting safely and passing control to OS kernel.
    • In summary here is the pathway you have to navigate> EFI>EFI>CLOVER>config.plist kext folder 10.12 or Other (folder) for Sierra kexts ( most importantly Fakesmc.kext and somewhat important file IntelMausiEthernet) and drivers64UEFI folder (contents very important for the disk to reach from BIOS screen to Clover Boot Manager screen(aka Clover boot screen)
  9. To mount the EFI and edit config.plist download and install and launch Clover Configurator -Vibrant edition from : http://mackie100projects.altervista.org/changelog-version-4-33-0. If you need help about CC-V use, ask in the Forum
  10. If any of the above are not clear , please ask questions clearly,.:) Good luck
@cmn699
1. I have checked for my motherboards specs and the asus site is a bit useless as it does not give specifics to the drivers needed --> https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/MAXIMUS_V_GENE/specifications/
  • I have tried various multibeast configurations and they all seem to successfully install, although the clover boot still does not allow me to boot from the ssd
  • Could you perhaps show me which MultiBeast options to pick for my mobo as I have tried multiple times which has lead me to reinstalling the entire OS 3 times </3 [will attach my config for MBeast. in the image provided you can see my resolution is at 720p instead of 1080p]
2. I have tried the Nvidia Web Drivers and they seem to not fix the display problem it is still stuck on the same resolution.
  • Drivers I have tested: --> tonymac WebDriver and the Nvidia driver straight from the site
3. I am familiar with the EFI partitions although I am not sure what is meant by editing the config.plist (what do I edit or remove?) or do I copy the entire EFI partition from the usb to the ssd where Sierra is installed into the EFI partitions?

4 I am currently using the MacOS on my desktop as is because I do not have another desktop (stupid mistake), if you do have any time to perhaps have a teamviewer session that would be amazing , if not its cool your help is appriciated in any case :):):):)

5. Is it possible for you to edit my config.plist as I do not want to fudge my one up with a silly mistake.

6. Im not sure if its weird but when ever I install Sierra and boot into the os, it already has an ethernet driver which works well ?

Apologies for the late response, I fell asleep last night after installing the os so many times.

Thanks a mill @cmn699

If you have not already set your "Security & Privacy" in "System Preferences" to "Allow apps downloaded from "Anywhere" radio button dotted, you need to do so to enable you to download and use non-apple Applications like Multibeast, Clover Configurator -Vibrant (CC-V) etc. Otherwise each time you try to download and install an App, you will be bugged by annoying prompts warning you against!
Easiest way to stop those annoying warnings, is through the Terminal command "sudo spctl"
Launch terminal from Applications>Utilities>Terminal
> sudo spctl --assess --master-disable
password:
There wont be any output displayed on Terminal screen; but in "Security and Privacy" you will get (.)Anywhere. You can now download 3rd party software without the warnings!

To assist you or others requiring info about the use of CC-V , I have uploaded some images.

To easily find your disk icons on desktop (right side) use "Finder"> "Preferences" check boxes [ ] (see image uploaded)

@cmn699 Yes I always do that the first time my Mac is installed get those annoying prompts away. Although Thank You just incase anyone else can learn from it :p :)

@cmn699 I have just noticed the Nvidia driver problem I think.
  • I installed the Web Driver, I then sets "OS X Default Graphic Driver"
  • When I change it to "Nvidia Web Driver" it asks for a reboot which I continuously do.
  • End result after reboot it resets back to "OS X Default Graphic Driver"
any fixes for that ?, as that might be causing the Display error.

@cmn699

So I went on a journey since I was stuck with the display drivers and turns out if "nv_disable=1" is set then it does not boot with the Nvidia Drivers and goes back to its default although when I added "nada_drv=1" it sets the resolution to the correct one with the options needed if you have a 4k screen etc.

Current Problems:
  • 1.] Booting from the MacOS drive without the usb [included in next few Bullet Points].
  • 2.] I have searched for my drivers and whatever I found did not work and lead me to reinstalling the OS. would you be able to help me find the correct "kexts" for my Motherboard: Asus Rog Maximus V Gene CPU: i7-3770K Overclocked to 4.6Ghz Cooler: Hi80 V2 Corsair.
  • 3.] I would prefer waiting for you to tell me exactly what to use for MultiBeast and the clover installation as I am slightly confused to the EFI partitions and not sure if I copy the entire EFI from the USB to the EFI on the SSD Sierra is installed ?
  • 4.] I cannot believe that there are nice people on the inter webs @cmn699 Thanks bro
  • 5.] Once I/We have successfully loaded Sierra and its drivers + kexts, would you mind if I collect all of our posts an create a single one for those who stumble upon the same problem using similar or the same problems with the ROG board.
  • 6.] EDITIED FOUND ERROR: iMessage and FaceTime fail while signing in due to authentication ? I know I added the correct information in multiple times [image below]

Let us try to fix one problem at a time instead of lumping everything together and being distracted from all sides :)
  • At this point, the easiest way to get this done is to copy the EFI folder of the USB installer and paste it on the EFI folder of the Sierra HDD to replace it , NOT keep both, Not merge with it , but JUST REPLACE. Following are the details of what is meant by the underlined words in the bullet
  • Both the "Sierra USB installer" (let us call it the "donor") and the "Sierra HDD System" (let us call it the "Recipient) have EFI Partitions in their disk structure
      • "EFI Partitions" were created by the "Disk Utility" (Remember way back) before macOSSierra was installed in each.
      • Inside the "EFI Partition" there is a Folder (=Directory) with the same name -the "EFI folder"
      • It is inside the EFI Folder where "CLOVER Folder" resides.
      • Inside "CLOVER" resides "config.plist" in which we make changes that decide the crucial steps during booting.
      • Inside "CLOVER" folder there are a number of Folders and sub-folders containing supportive files required for booting and configured through "config.plist"
    • The EFI Partition is normally hidden and must be 'mounted' on the desktop to be accessible to us to look inside and edit and make changes.
    • To mount the EFI Partition, the best tool in my opinion is "Clover Configurator -Vibrant edition" (CC-V). You need to get this third party tool to your system requiring EFI mounting and config.plist editing
  • If you have got CC-V installed in your current System, post back, we will start from there to copy the EFI folder of the Donor disk to the Recipient disk for replacement of the latter to make the Recipient disk boot without the need for the USB and thus solve your problem listed as #1 above.

@cmn699 lol yeah its better for us to do one by one, there was confusion everywhere x_x :p;

bellow are the images requested [I have added a USB 3.0 image as my 2.0 ports do not work];

SIDE NOTE: going to test the EFI and CC-V now, oh an the "nada_drv=1" works 100% until I reboot then it resets to default OS X Graphics although we can get to that once we are completed :).

@cmn699 I have fixed issue no.1 with booting without the usb. I did exactly what you said copy the entire EFI over to the MacOS EFI and it worked I used CC-V to include "nada_drv=1". I ventured on yet another journey to get the audio drivers working I found out that my audio works using "ALC898" although it only plays through my center speaker and subwoofer, I currently have a 5.1 surround sound setup. Hoping when you come online you would know which is the correct audio driver.

Images will be attached bellow ;)
  • I have also fixed the Ethernet by installing "AppleIntelE1000e".
  • I am uncertain if the ALC898 is a 2.0 driver ?
  • ˆˆˆˆˆÊDITIED : ALC898 works 100% I have been fiddling with it and I got it working. [if you do have the proper drivers let me know :)]
All that is left that needs fixing is the audio for 5.1 surround and iMessage.

Usually when the EFI is installed and you boot it automatically selects the MacOS drive and gives you an x amount of seconds to choose a different boot drive, in my case I have to manually select it. Is there a way in the config to get that working and set it to 4 seconds while selecting the correct Macos drive ?

Random question: How do I uninstall a kext that was installed using MultiBeast ?
EDIT NOTE: ˆ^is it in drive/Library/Extentions ? because I simply deleted what I wanted removed ?

I have fixed issue no.1 with booting without the usb.

That's Great! The organ transplant (Good EFI from the USB installer to replace Bad non-working EFI of System disk) worked as expected :). The MAJOR PROBLEM solved [√]

I have also fixed the Ethernet by installing "AppleIntelE1000e".
Ethernet Fixed [√]
I am uncertain if the ALC898 is a 2.0 driver ?
I don't have your Asus ROG Maximus Gene MoBo. Fom what I could get from a quick scan of Specification of your MoBo , Asus calls Audio Chipset SupremeFX III and in another site somewhere I can't recall now (may be Tom'shardware) it is described as"
realtek 1150 is the same as suppreme fx on the asus, all the suppreme fx is is a realtek 1150 codec with some fancy software"
My suggestion: From Multibeast try installing ALC 1150 + 5.1 and check Sound performance.

All that is left that needs fixing is the audio for 5.1 surround and iMessage.
Search , Locate Read & Re-Read and try and try again the steps from Tonymac >Jaymonkey iMessage GUIDE [https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/...-following-desktop.216696/page-2#post-1456141] and an IDIOT's iMessage Guide by Moderator P1lgrim https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/an-idiots-guide-to-imessage.196827/
If still questions they can answer far better .
Once you find the answer, post a detailed account of how you fixed the problem for others to learn from you. :)
That's the least we all can do for this site.
Is there a way in the config to get that working and set it to 4 seconds while selecting the correct Macos drive ?
There certainly is a way. CC-V>EFI Partition Mounting >EFI>EFI>CLOVER>RIGHT-Click config.plist >open with...CC-V> Boot menu> Boot Args:- needed boot flag and removal of unwanted ones.

For details and for the benefit of other readers, start a new thread with a heading like "how to fix Boot issues with config.plist editing ?"
See you soon :)

@cmn699 check the quote :)

Yes of course I have been dumping every step I have done in a text file. I will most likely start 2 new threads and post everything needed for others to read if they are stuck in the same situation. :)

I greatly appreciate your help and hope I can help others. lol I kept on venturing by myself as well with the total of 3 reinstalls *whew*

@cmn699 check the image provided, let me know if I'm wrong I simply have to insert my macOS drive name by "Default Boot Volume"?
