[SOLVED] ga-z170n-wifi bluetooth, "no information found"

Hi,

I've got the ga-z170n-wifi mobo and can see on the buyer's guide that:

"the included Intel m.2 card includes both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth but only the bluetooth features are available under macOS"

I'm not interested in WIFI at this point but want Bluetooth. In the System Information it says "No information found".

I've attempted using various support dongles and different settings so have had bluetooth working in the past. It might be that I don't have the correct configuration or perhaps I have something installed that I shouldn't that is preventing bluetooth from working.

Should bluetooth work out of the box on this mobo?

It doesn't work very reliably or consistently. You need to use another solution like the USB dongle or a combo wifi and BT card that is compatible.

Thanks for the reply, guess it shouldn't be listed as supported in the buyer's guide?

Will I need to disable the built in card if using a dongle or combo card to stop conflicts - is there a way to do this?

Simply remove the existing wifi/BT card. Use a BT dongle if that's all you'll need.

Thanks, I've done this and added a USB bluetooth dongle and it does seem to have made a difference.

Because bluetooth has been inconsistent it's difficult to tell what's cause and effect when troubleshooting.

In the past the bluetooth dongle has worked but had stopped recently.

Now that it's started working again it's making me think that the Intel card was interring - let's hope this is the case.

Your Bluetooth woes could also be caused by which particular USB port you plug the dongle into (also which BT chipset the dongle uses). For example, have you done the USB port limitation exercise? You may not have 15 ports anyway due to the small size of the motherboard, but because any USB 3 port can be a USB 2 port too the 15 limit soon gets eaten up! Without the patch in place you might be using a port without full resources etc.

Though I haven't tried an Intel combo card, I assume the BT part of it still uses a USB connection via the connector.

So after a couple of weeks of testing, bluetooth is working great and no more booting issues/kernel panics.

So if you're having issues with bluetooth worth checking if your mobo has built in bluetooth and removing it!
