macOS Sierra PB: Need testers for new AMD Radeon drivers!

Not open for further replies.
I have a MSI RX 480 GAMING X and it works in Sierra with acceleration. However, a have freezes of one or two seconds every ten seconds or so. Have someone experienced this freezes too?

I overclocked successfully my RX480 under windows and then edited the original VBIOS
core clock 1375
memory clock 2150
And here is Luxmark 3.1 result.

Thats why i also love Powercolors Red Devil RX480 -> it has a plain and simple switch on GPUs logic board. So no software hassle with tools on Wintendo™ or similar ;)
Sapphire Nitro has it as well, So now I have to bios profile Performance (Which is this one) and Stock/Silent.

Reporting that the XFX 1288MHz reference-cooler RX 480 is working with metal/36cores/~14400lux3.1 in a MacPro 5,1 10.12.3 except when waking from overnight sleep. It wakes up, but chunking. Solved with restart.

I only discovered the hackintosh world and this site about a month ago when I ordered the RX480. (ya, lol)
I manually changed X4100 and 9500 to enable mine. Didn't touch Clover. Had to force EDID override for the Dell u2410 monitor. Been thinking lately I should look into a hackintosh. After the RX480 and monitor override, ya I'm done futzing about for awhile. ;)

Those people who have reported unstable or crashed FCPX with their RX480 -> could you exactly explain what you're doing?
I currently run FCPX 10.3.2 | Compressor 4.3.1 | Motion 5.3.1 without any problems.

Somehow i get more and more the feeling that 99,59% i do with my system runs flawlessy compared to other reportings.

Skylake builds seem to be working okay. My 4790K build with RX480 crashes FCPX 10.3+ if I have Intel injected. I have to remove Intel injection on mine, and FCPX 10.3+ works fine. However, I have no sleep without Intel injection (monitors only sleep, system keeps running). Also suffer from slow boot/shutdown. Sleep works perfect, and bootup/shutdown are very fast as they should be when Inject Intel is checked.

Slow boot time is not that big of an issue, but I really relied on sleep a lot before (shut down overnight only), but now I shut down a restart a few times a day as needed, when I know I'll be stepping away for a while.

To get fcpx to work you would need to delete parts of the intel igpu kext files, or you would need to disable the igpu and edit the bios of the 480 so it doesn't post during boot. Probably not a great idea if you don't have a dual bios.

Personally I went with the second option and it's working great so far, although I don't need to boot into windows so it may not be a great solution for others who do. Sleep etc. all works fine.

Replace 0x67EF1002 with 0x67DF1002 in AMDRadeon4100.kext and AMD9510controller.kext info.plist files.
Then use kextutility to rebuild the kext cache.
Good morning,
thank you, I did it, it is now the result:

The latest fix is to remove parts of the Intel SKL Graphics kext. Basically it will disable or degrade performance of your integrated or cpu graphics but when using a RX 480 the CPU IGFX is only needed for the boot screen. It will probably lower performance for open GL apps and gaming but for open CL apps it should be fine. This fix has been reported to work for more than one user and its important if you are using FCPx for a living.

Thanks since this is a single purpose machine thats been the sticking point. I appreciate what the community has done. To further the cause. I can't imagine abandoning the Apple coolaid , and since they have control of the hardware software they can definitely squeeze every bit out of everything, they just have made things difficult for people who need things like high speed networking and can't rely on Thunderbolt. If they abandon Intel, we are all in a heap of trouble.

Do you have the Nvidia web drivers installed? I keep seeing that Nvidia message. Check in Library/Extensions or System/Library/Extensions.

Also, when you edit the info.plist for 4100kext you need to drag the info.plist to the desktop, make the edit and then replace it to the folder. You should get "authenticate" and " replace" prompts and then password. Before you reboot you need to run a kext tool like Kextwizzard to fix repair permissions and clear caches. Kext beast doesn't usually work you'll need to use Kextwizzard. Google it. There is a video on YouTube by Philips Garage RX 480 in sierra. Watch it a few times and then redo the fix.
