I have been out of the OSX86 loop for a few years. What makes the 8300 easier to hackintosh than other pre-built systems of the era? Are there issues with intel Haswell generation processors?
I'm pretty sure that the Haswell versions of these HP Biz desktops would work just as well. The problem is mainly cost. Until they go off lease (3-4 years) after they are initially sold the prices are as high or higher than building your own. The performance gains of Haswell over Ivy bridge are minimal, not worth paying the extra money for.

The primary reason for most to buy/build a hackintosh is to save money. Some do this just for the challenge and enjoyment of the process but if you took a poll, most would tell you that cost savings is the main reason. You can save even more by going with refurb Core 2 Duo systems by Dell or HP. The downside is that it is much more difficult to install El Capitan or newer versions of macOS on them. They also don't offer sata 3 or USB 3 like these IB Elite 8300s do.

I can't really speak for other systems of the era, I have not had the pleasure of messing with other systems... I decided to try and install macOS on this system because I found one at a ridiculously low price and it turned out to work extremely well.

There are many users who have perfectly running Haswell systems too. If you choose to go with Haswell, you shouldn't have too much difficulty.

Here is what I did when I upgraded from El Capitan to Sierra: #55

Finally got Sierra decently close to working as well as El Capitan.

Wake-on-lan stops working after I shut down my Hackintosh. This was not an issue on El Capitan. Looked thru the Bios: After save & exit in Bios, I can get Wake-on-lan to keep working as long as I shutdown before it boots to Sierra, as soon as I boot up Sierra & shut down Sierra , wake-on-lan stops working & have to repeats steps in BIOS. Then repeats this hell loop.

Is it possible that ssdt.aml breaks from El Capitan to Sierra? I'm using your sddt.aml you posted on original post (Quick reminder, still running hp Compaq elite 8300 cmt i7-3770 3.4GHz, nic Intel 82579LM 1Gigibit Network ) So I did a fresh install of Sierra because El Capitan upgraded to Sierra broke my system...

I never tried power-on LAN... Only tried wake-on-LAN a few times which is working for me.

I don't think ssdt.aml will break. As far as I know, the app used to generate it just pulls the CPU info from Intel, so a change in operating system should not affect it.

I'm trying to get turbo boost to work on my i5-2500. I used ssdtPRGen.sh to get my SSDT.aml and set "DropOEM" to "true" in with clover. ssdtPRGen.sh shows my cpu can do 4 turbo boost states (34, 35, 36, 37) up to 3.7 GHz but I'm only getting 3.4 GHz maximum.

Does anyone have that CPU?

I never tried anything other than the i7 3770 that came with the computer, but for me, I never had to enable "DropOEM". Also, I found that I had to use the iMac13,2 system definition to have working Turbo mode.

Hope this helps you...

Anyone knows if a USB-UASP external SSD will work in 8300 SFF? I am planning to buy an external SSD to keep some Virtual Machines from Work but not sure if will be reliable to work with it.

Thanks!

macOS Sierra 10.12.3 updated via App Store. Everything continues to work fine including HDMI audio.

I can't find the post anymore, but I recall you saying that you had to update your system definition to imac14,2 from imac13,2 to get Sierra working properly. But in the first post, I now see that you advise against using imac14,2.

I'm thinking of upgrading to Sierra soon but want to clear this up before proceeding. Thanks so much for your help!
